Well from time to time I get asked to fix boards, but as you all know it is time consuming and with a full time job it can take ages too! and of course people get 'upset' if you keep there board for ages! so someone suggested why not buy one off the bay and repair up and sell it to them!, thought naa M1 non working is gong for silly money at the moment, then I see this one £56 non working delivered, the underside was perfect with no rot and thought that one don't look so bad! so bought it, it arrived today bit green round the chips! first thing remove the battery, yep good old track damage under! and very green IC legs! 74 hc04 was next to come out, even with the leg looking so bad it came out really nicely with my pace desolderer at only 380 deg C, was impressed it did it so well, and the usual on M1B the chip legs are all clinched which makes them even worse to get out! was quite surprised as it looked so bad I thought it was bound to be faulty... but no!!!! chip will still go in the bin though! so spent a couple of hours tonight just desoldering the chips with the pace unit! board now looks like this!!! that's as far as I got tonight!

Phantom solenoid operation is most usually caused by the triac driver transistors leaking. I swap them all out as a matter of course. Also check the caps, the ones that look like resistors in the previous picture. If you put your fingernail underneath them you'll find they will probably fall apart!

Maygay... Some great games But terrible tech if I'm honest. The m1's problematic at best. I mean...What other tech needs a working board to start up the PSU? Never had much luck with epoch either.

Yes Moon Bug used an electromechanical reel mech with a motor and solenoids

Easy enough to fix but the right desoldering tools are a must if you don’t want any board or track damage

most likely the lamp board, they can be fixed but most don't bother this was a reel board, fiddly but can be done first row of bad chips! found a bad one! nope that did not cure it, second go at bad chips

I had shorted out hundreds of Bell Fruit machines. It's not ideal but I have never seen any damaged caused from it. MPU5 can cause damage (I found that out lol). With the machine switched off you are fine to short battery out on Scorp 1,2,3 (dutch market) and 4. Obviously disconnecting the battery is always advised but like i say I have done it LOTS of time with no problems.

Anyway... I have always bought my e/eproms from ebay and they've been all fine, usually supplied pre-blanked and clean. I've done hundreds and can count the duff ones on one hand.
