Ok so enough on the testers, this has all been covered on other threads, Back to this unit! the CPU tests fine so looking at it further, we can see it has been apart before, but why? well it must have had some intermittent display troubles on the end led segment as it has been reflowed and flux remains! so this board has definitely been out! this was the connector placement when I removed it, top one is the power plug all seemed fine, so powered it up again!, after a min or so of being on I could see the 'magic' smoke from the psu!!!! the 22v bridge rectifier had split and got hot!! this was replaced but not then turned back on as something would still be wrong ok so back to the top board with the power plug removed I had a 17 ohm short on the board across the 5v rail, so each chip was removed (and tested) and they was fine untill I got to the 4049 this had the 17 ohm short on it!! so removed it then plugged the power lead in (still not applying power) so I could confirm continuity of 5v from the main board to this board, there was none!! I finally discovered this was because the power plug had been put on the wrong way round!!! putting it on correctly continuity for the 5v resumed!!!! so this is how the top plug SHOULD have been the plug just under goes to the hopper, so I now need to confirm this is the right way round too before applying power! hopefully it is just one new chip as I suspect it had 22v up a pin it should'nt have had and a new bridge rectifier which I had as they are used in Maygay M1 psu's! the story continues!......

not done enough of them to know, but it is very common for meter errors on Maygay M1 as the battery rot take its toll!

Maygay ones these days are very brittle and the tab breaks off just by looking at them! they usually go brownish in colour, now there was some that was a brighter white used on another make of machine (cant remember what make now) which was so much more hardy and did not break at all with age, but as others have said you have to watch out for the diodes in them and which way round they are.

well if you have changed the motherboard and the error is no longer there it is going to be the motherboard! the meters are monitored so if thee is any problem with that circuit then the cpu will be told the meters are not there and hence the error, meter error is fatal. no amount of ram clear will fix that problem!
