A JPM seminar from 1979. featuring Frank..

So,magik and me have been working on this board ,he told me what tests to do and i did them,within 2 hours we have a booting board and a 90% working machine,magic,pardon the pun.so now the issue is a non working display,we are on that today i hope,so many many thanks to fruit58,dave and magik for giving their time and helping.I simply would not have this lovely machine working without you guys.Im well happy so far

A screaming introduction lol Yes the earlier EM used 1 or 2 motors and clutches and trip arms to run the reels. Studs and wipers then told the unit where the reels were. Then they went over to stepper motors and opto sensors, just to verify the reel was where the MPU had told it to go to. The MPU4 and MPS manuals have excellent write ups on how the whole system works.

Cheers, the price was a bit of a sting at £420 considering the condition of the MPU but I can handle that! And yes, the relief when it was finally in the house was immeasurable!!!

Gents.... I might be having a blonde moment here but how did you work out which was P1 and P2?? I know they are the 128kb files (that are blown in to a 1meg prom). Ive blown both in to two new 1Meg proms, but my machine doesn’t boot with my proms in my prom card, either way around P1 & 2 switched over (not upside down obviously!) I put my original £10 cash ones in and it boots fine... After it’s failed to boot, Ive removed the proms loaded the file back in to the programmer verified both proms with their file in the programmer, and they both verify as good... For the life of me I can’t see the obvious that I’m missing!! HELP.... Please!!
