  1. As if I didn't have enough on my plate trying to get these boards to run correctly. The PC plus board was always making funny noises when first booted until it warmed up. This afternoon the sound went completely. After a bit of detective work I found a via was broken that fed the enable pulses to the sound chip. Apart from the usual crumbly solder you would be fooled into thinking it was OK. After running a patch wire through the board solid sound was restored. Another thing I came across whilst trying to track down the hissing and crackling on cold startup was the board was covered in places with a conductive film and it was possible to measure up to about 3v on bare board in certain places!! The only sure way I found of removing this was by using Electrolube PCB cleaner and scrubbing with cotton buds. The board actually looked clean from previous attempts with IPA but the film was still there albeit transparent. Once the board warmed up the voltages diminished but the slightest bit of moisture (breath) would bring them back again. Since using the PCB cleaner all seems to be well but tomorrow morning will tell for sure. So it's back to the 'no start up' behaviour again in normal play.

  8. Still chipping away at the weetabix! The cracked side on the inside bottom where the screws go through from the base stand, the screws were rusted solid so I had no option but to pry it off! This resulted in chinks coming of, but that area is unseen when assembled. Firstly I removed about 5mm from the bottom to get the chips at the edge away. I then routed out the damaged area and patched in a piece of wood. Still waiting on the new glue but this is how it looks just now.

  10. None of the of NV’s will update, I’m afraid... they need to be the “USB” version with the button on instead of the 4 dil switches... what protocol is the one your trying to pair set on?? Is it definitely set to what the machine needs?? And what machine is it??

  12. Evening all, Wondered if anyone here has encountered early Barcrest video tech? Was sent this photo recently but due to resolution, can't read the label and was curious as to whether it was an MPU3 based board (the aux pins might suggest so?) from the likes of a Dream Machine, Take 5ive etc. or perhaps something earlier like Star Nudge (the black label and AMP connectors look more MPU1/2 than 3). If anyone has any similar hardware, be interesting to compare ...
