As you will hear on the video this is dedicated to everyone on the mecca as a big thank you for all your help shes back up and running again10 points

It's possible I guess , but getting the I/O timing to be 100% accurate would be difficult under Linux, and you would need a universal I/O board to cover all types of machines.3 points

Thanks for the explanation. Yes for sure it's occurred to me. But to me the logical thing to do is approach the experts of the software side of Mpu's and open a dialogue or ask for advice? Or try to learn more myself. I have done as much research as I can into the chips themselves. Until you explained that none of us had a clue. The main aim is repairing or reproducing what the boards do. There are lots of hurdles to overcome such as where to get this program and how do I that... As mpu people we see the Emu people are obviously much more advanced we see you've solved a lot of problems and occasionally think wow I'll ask how they do that?? Which I hope is fair enough 😎2 points

Hi Wizard that's fascinating information, ive got to say thank you Its not a conspiracy... it's just people asking honest questions, with the hopes of fixing our Mpus long term. A fair few real fruity guys have tried to find out a few more advanced bits from the Emu guys. But no one wants to acknowledge us usually... which is a little frustrating for us that's all...it's a bit of an iron curtain situation. Just out of interest how are you guys liaising with the boards to find out how the game code is interacting particularly Epoch? I've been told by a fellow who used to do Epoch game coding in the industry about fitting Ram chips in the Eprom sockets and interacting with boards. I've also spoken to a few advanced guys on here who also aware of that technique. I do appreciate it might seem hilarious people that don't fully understand asking you all questions. We can all learn something here. It's good natured.2 points

Could epoch effectivle last another 60 to 80 years then if you have enough spares2 points

Lets nip this in the bud once and for all. The ASICs and FPGAs used on both Impact and Epoch are extremly complex hardware devices, they are *NOT* encrypted and do not contain any code that can be extracted. You don't need to know what's inside to be able to emulate it, all you need to see is how the game code interacts with it. To make a copy of it would be like saying can you make me a copy of this CPU. There is no conspiracy going on here.2 points

Next up is a machine i've wanted to do for an age, its a machine i remember playing back in '92' down @ Burnham on sea holiday park i worked at for a short time it was on 10p play with a £4.80 repeater which repeated 9 more times for £48 in tokens happy days i thought till i lost it all in cash wise/chain reaction lol It's Twice as Nice a previously un-runnable machine but thanks to Wizards advancements in Mfme we can now experience this classic machine from the nineties It looks similar to Blue Chip but this has loads going on, unlimited nudges , hold one reel, hold all three, hold two for reel match the list goes on, then there's the 7's repeat for the £4.80 repeat chance. A BIG Thanks goto to Wizard for setting up this layout from getting the thing to run to putting it on its 20p setting and maybe more... According to Wizard,There is a bug in the code which affects the first payout the machine makes after a reset, you'll hear all the triacs firing when the first coin is payed out. He'll fix this in the next update. i would love to see this dx'ed but images are hard to come by, but have left this un-locked just incase. I think i've got the reel symbols in order, if they're not please, please post with the correct order and afaik most of the lamps are in their correct places, due to no test mode as such on this machine i couldn't identify them properly except from playing it for hours lol, So if not placed correctly again, post away!!! shortcuts are as standard PLAYS IN MFME V19.6 + Enjoy and Happy Gaming!!! Twice as Nice £4.80 Classic.zip1 point

Contacted ian sunday,Now its here, superfast quality service. You just cant fault the guy.I did text him to say thankyou as apprieciation goes a long way.Anyway,it works, its in pretty good nik,not happy it takes new 10p so will return it to old 10p.It will be stripped and cleaned as usual.Ive always wanted a brenco and this floated my boat as soon as i saw it.1 point

Battery leakage.First get battery off the board, then clean with isopropanol alcahol.Rinse in water then let dry 24 hours, that will prevent further rotting.Do not use vinegar to clean the board.1 point

Wow, thanks a lot for this Vectra! Not one I've ever seen before. I'm very familiar with Blue Double Chip, so this should be good. I'll give it a blast. Good work!1 point

No worries, I will always try to help out but if I don't reply to something, it's usually because I don't know or cannot add anything useful. I've had to figure out a ton of stuff myself due to a lack of documentation for the Emulator including: MPU character chip, BFM Asic for S2, DSP for MPU5, ASIC for MPU5, ASIC for Impact, ASIC for spACE extender board etc etc1 point

I have no idea what software is used or details of the debug interface card that connects a PC to the board. All I know is what is mentioned in that tech doc. As I said using RAMs appears to be part of the development process as a debug/testing tool to save having to blow EPROMS. Has it not occured to you that you reached a dead end because no-one outside of Maygay knows anything about it?1 point

There are a set of registers inside the FPGA that are memory mapped so the game code can read/write to, to set it up and read status info from. It also does all the lamp/led flash rate timing, so reducing the load from the main CPU The FPGA can also read/write directly to the game RAM and this is used to serialize the data that goes to the I/O boards both input and output and also the dot matrix port. This occurs all the time the game is running and is completely independant from the game code. The game code just writes the required data into RAM and the FPGA transparently serializes it and sends it to the I/O cards. At the same time it reads the data from the cards and places it into the RAM for the game code to read as required. There is also something in there that the Boot/Security pics access, but this is completely invisble to the game code so I have no idea how that side works. It also has debug access and can read code from an external source and write it to RAM chips that replace the game EPROMs for debugging/development purposes. Again MFME has no idea about this and again I've no idea how that works. I think all this info is available in the Epoch Tech Manual which has been posted here before1 point

What about "Fast Track /Trak) Not sure of spelling? Had a jp feature called Pang where you hit a 6 I believe for Jp. Going back to 1998 ish at a guess.1 point

Wizard do you think it would be possible to get to a stage where the internals of a machine could be replaced with say a Raspberry Pi, with USB connections to small boards to control the payouts, inputs, lamp strobes etc? So in effect replace the Epoch (or any failed board type for which parts were not available) with a Pi or small PC running an auto booting MFME with a set game program controlling the remaining hardware parts of the machine?1 point

Exactly my thoughts mate. Non working not an issue for me, so a lot of people must feel the same. Hence the prices seen Indiana Jones go 250 non working locked to!1 point
-
True but if you have a stash of boards and want it for yourself working/non working is not important. That's why broken machines can sometimes go for a more sometimes .1 point

Me personally I think the real kudos comes from helping people and working together on all our a projects.... I personally don't get why they won't help Tbh.1 point

So finally the bedroom nearly done, ive been painting and repairs to floor etc carpet going in thursday and that means i can get all the fecking furniture out the garage at last and work on this.my work bench and cupbaords have not been accessable for 3 weeks.Which pissed me off but from friday this brenco is getting the treatment,i just love it1 point

Your right mate, Steve has mentioned this in his videos before Home truths.1 point

look at MPU5, you enter the 4 letter/number code of the PIC chip into the emulator settings and it works!! so they must know what goes on inside the PIC chip! took me several months of working it out to come up with a working copy for real machines, but I did do it all on my own!1 point
