  1. Indeed i got the dreamcast on launch day back in 1999 and for retro purposes I rebuilt my collection last year . it was probobally the most underrated console to date. segas problem with the Saturn was its difficulty to code for and the way they had been pissing off developers for the last few years so quite a few gave the dreamcast a wide birth(EA being the main one with its popular FIFA football game)even though they embedded it with Windows CE to make porting PC games easy. SEGA had the idea of using the gigabyte CD rom disk known as a gd rom to help curb piracy that the PlayStation suffered with a normal cd rom disks (oddly not the Saturn)but they left a weakness in the system by allowing mini disks to boot without the proper security checks thus allowing those boot CDs to surface and gd rom games could be ripped down and burned to normal CDs and the whole anti paracy measures could be bypasses without the need for a mod chip. segas thinking must have been that the system would be more secure as gd roms could not be read by a normal CD/DVD burner found in a PC but software was coded using the easy to program dreamcast that actually used the consoles own GD rom drive to read the disk. the later verson dreamcast motherboard had this back door hack fixed but it was then too late. had they used a DVD drive with better security and had a better relationship with developers the console would have succeeded and we could have now been on the DC 2,3 or 4.

  8. Thanks for the links. I think I've tracked down an original manual; if that works out I'll scan that too and post it up here for others to reference.

  9. On the Impact-R the microprocessor's are all imported here especially to the uk as new old stock (do they still have green dots on that batch those parts have all been to my house lol?). They're not massively expensive so it's much better to use new ones. The logic chips are new old stock with fresh programs on too. 100% new or new old stock components everywhere πŸ‘Œ

  10. Impact is generally a solid tech to go with, with just the battery on the Processor card poss causing issues (Sometimes the PSU can give strange issues, like series 90 / stake / prize key faults, but is rare), however as a preventive measure if it's all working, just wire the battery off the board, so if worse case it leaks, it will not wipe out owt vital. Also worth taking a look at the attached tech guides..... though not for this actual machine, they are still very useful as a guide to the JPM Impact system. One last thing, because Impact PSU's use a massive Toroidal style Transformer which surges a bit on power up, use a 5amp fuse in the plug, not a 3. 14. Sega used to be huge but didn't they start on a downward spiral in the late 90's with the flops Sega Saturn and Dreamcast?

  15. Hi I just saw this. Not to go against Andrew but there's zero reused components on the Impact-R cards. All are brand new parts or new old stock components for the things that haven't been built for years. The processors and logic chips havent been in producton for a while but Impact-R's use new parts as Others have used. I think the only difference is the voltage regulators once again Impact-r' s use brand new old stock. Not going against Andrew because im a massive fan of Andrews work but just being 110% honest here. Impact-R's were made because there were absolutely none at all being produced at the time and we couldn't get any anywhere and it had been like that for a good few years. Zero competition or anything like that. 😎

  19. Don't you just love sour grapes and jealousy... How childish and ridiculous that a grown man can get upset about not getting his hands on a fruit machine that was made avaliable to the whole of the Internet on various platforms Maybe a more enjoyable life to have would be not to expect everything of a certain tech or manufacturer should come to you and only you. As your somehow entitled to it? Over everyone else End of the day these are the facts. A machine was advertised. A machine was brought and now is in the hands of a mpu mecca member. I see nothing wrong with that story I am off for a walk now as I can't afford a car.......... Ha ha happy days... Life's too short
