  1. He wouldn't know the best approach as he doesn't own any machines. Maybe one day......

  2. Evenin Folks, I cant hold out any longer as im like a dog with two tails right now. Santa "Riche100" arrived Christmas Eve and promptly dropped this down my chimney It needs an awful lot of work but im upto the job or at least gonna give it my best shot as its one of my Holy Grail Machines Its not going to be perfect and I may be on the scrounge for bits along the way although Rich being the star that he is has already offered me loads of spares and assistance so watch this space :-) Here it is from day 1 Cheers Stef

  4. ACE - Golden Streak Tech: sp.ACE Here's a nice little lo-tec from Ace. It plays on 3 win lines, either get a reel win or 3 gold bars on the matrix to play the streak game. Just a shame it's mute due to no sound roms. Thanks to Wizard for the emulator and the latest update that allows this to run. The image and rom provider. Please use MFME V19.8 or later to play Golden Streak.zip

  5. so the switch strobes! as said previously its usually just one of the drive transistors faulty, but there was too many strobe lines out! so went back to the 74HC273 which is a binary to decimal chip, well looking at its decimal output most lines were missing!!! so it's inputs ar on pins 1, 2, and 3! it was impossible to get the depth of field to cover both the chip, scope probe and oscilloscope in the next pictures, so the oscilloscope trace is out of focus! but you can still see the waveforms so not a big problem I thought! pin 1....... square wave as expected for binary counting! pin 2...... NOTHING! Pin 3..... NOTHING! now my first thought is I must have missed a open circuit trace as these tracks run a fair distance from U3 the TMP82C79 chip (a keyboard controller chip) where the signals are generated from on pins 32, 33, 34, and pin 35 which is not used for the switches but is used for the binary to decimal chip to drive the lamp strobes and lamp cpu! so measuring continuity and to my surprise the 3 tracks are fine! perfect continuity and not shorting to anything else either! the scope was then put on the TMP82c79 SL0 line pin 32 which goes to pin 3 in the pics above still had nothing on! pin 33 SL1 had nothing on and pin 34 SL2 (which goes to pin 3) was fine! pin 35 SL3 which is used for the lamp strobes was also not present! so thats3 out of the 4 strobe generation lines from the TMP82c79 was missing! so out come the 40 pin TMP82c79 keyboard controller chip and another was found! luckily when I was buying bits for maygay boards I did actually buy a couple, but must admit have never ever had one fail before so was not convinced this was really bad and something might be pulling it down! anyway it was changed and pins checked again! this time Pin 1, good, signal present Pin 2, good, signal now present! Pin 3, good, signal now present! switch strobes now ALL present when the scope was run down the switch strobe pins on the switches connector! It does make me wonder if static or something else nasty has happened previously to this board in the past which perhaps took out that chip! also I wonder if the lamp CPU will be ok as that has the signals too from this TMP82c79 ic fed to it, I guess I will find that out when I test the board with game software! but least that problem which if it was in a machine would have kept resetting because the software would not have interpreted the switch inputs as anything sensible and most of the lamps would not have even worked I would think! or been very bright! but at least that's another step forward to the board being fully working

  7. So here I was in my man shed/cave type thingy playing amongst others my fav machine (SLU) and in one hand I had some £2 coins ready for my more modern Bell fruits Pots of Gold and in the other hand I had old 10ps for my SLU. Ok so I had a couple of beers (only a couple) and next thing I know I have no 10ps left. So I think to myself where are the £2 coins gone? Then i realise the greedy SLU had taken them as well without me realising. Yep they seem to double for the old 10p. Then strangest of all. I thought if they work as old 10ps do the old 10ps work as £2 coins in my more modern Pots of Gold? And amazingly they do! Must be just that mech cus they don't work on any other of my more modern machines. I couldn't believe they worked...anyway thought I would share the info. Hope I haven't bored anyone. Mart
