  1. Probably a dumb question (I don't own such shit tech) but doesn't an EPROM sit where that tie wrap is on the socket?

  3. don't do it with the alpha especially on a mk 2 lamp board as it WILL blow the custom actel chip used on that board and you will be needing another!

  4. i see piss can be used to clean a board i recommend that method .. remember to turn the machine off first mind ...... hahahaha

  6. I certainly wouldn't plug and unplug those (or any) cables while there is power on the machine.... That won't do anything inside the machine any good.

  7. Thanks Andrew I'm going to pratice on a old trashed board I have first to get the hang of it before I touch this one šŸ˜€

  8. Yes agreed I'm not going to do it on that board just yet I've got a board in my machine I'm going to pratice it on first

  9. the processor and the actel chip pins do still look corroded as do the via's near the processor, between the pins of the processor and actel chip do really need to be cleaned or the corrosion will become leaky and stop it working, I did show this on my epoch repairing thread I did, have a look at that, it may help

  11. @PCP Fan they don't half go with a bang! Some smell off them too. Gave me a hell of a fright first time it happened top me! If you're lucky enough then you get a bit of a "warning" fizz and a puff of smoke first.

  14. I think these are the ones that net dent is on about ? I have used these from rs before mate if somebody could confirm that they are the correct ones for you to use that would be good šŸ‘

  15. I switch just ā€œDā€ which gave a bad character alarm so switched ā€œEā€ too which solved it. Andy Capp up & running on the correct jackpot. Thank you mate. That information is so useful šŸ‘ŒšŸ½

  17. You bought it from a notorious seller who is a grade-A bullshitter. You weren't to know though, unfortunately.

  21. It all has to be linked together by that serial cable to run. If you zapped anything that drives the serial connections on any of those boards it won't run. Can you see why going in and out with the cable is not a good idea? Also it's a nightmare trying to diagnose what's faulty now

  22. Wow Keith I'm sorry mate I managed to load the video up. I can't believe your pulling the serial link in and out while it's running. Why do that? It's not like pulling a cable in and out while something running ever fixes it? If you muck around with Epoch like that is going to be very expensive. The board probably was working when you brought it but rekon you've zapped something mate. It's designed to be fitted and left alone

  23. I'll offer to test it for you too (and eproms if it's a similar machine). Appears the board is booting ok but it can still be totally dead to the serial link output which is not uncommon. Try it again and this time touch the large Actel Acel chip in the center of the board after about a minute. Is it getting warm? Try that first. As Mavroz says though buying crappy cheap epoch gear does not bode well as you just buy 5 times the amount. Also as Andrew says too swap Psu's over it's all of 5min job try that too.

  24. Yep, as I said, you need to source a known or guaranteed working board. Working fine when last powered up etc etc are no good as that may have been 5 years ago. If you don't want to splash out on a working Mpu, again as I said, get someone from this thread to try your Mpu in their working machine to confirm it is that what is not working. If it is, move into the lamp board etc etc. If you want to try to repair the mpu you have, all well and good but many here will have you bouncing back and forth trying this, trying that, and on and on, trial and error replacing component after component or track after track which will take an age or a small fortune with no real solution. Best of luck.

  25. As I said a good while ago. Or at least send your Mpu for someone to try in a running machine if you can't be bothered sourcing a known running one.

  27. The other card could just be broke, number of reading for it or roms corrupted etc, yes you can swap roms over, just be careful. With a bit of luck you might have a spare CHR there.. be sure not to damage the roms with static

  29. This board would reset, condition generally fine, few rot blemishes here and there but nothing much really, until a good look at the processor under the microscope was taken! that's not nice! bit of the green corrosion there!! bit of poking using stainless steel pointy tool and yep it does come off! its very time consuming to get it all off, using a tooth brush or any other brush does nothing, it all had to be scraped out from between and behind the chip legs! but it id start to all look much better! took about a hour to get one side of the processor pins nice and clean, but looks good now from this picture taken without the microscope! pins on the left and front done, still have the pins on the right (and back) to do as you can see!! power of the microscope!
