OMG! I love this forum, I think I love you BF74!!! I did as asked the reels would not align initially then kept turning the wheels and could put in coins and play it and the nudges and holds now work and I have played it for 20 mins before getting 3 Bell Fruits so I left it. Over the bloody moon, thank you so much!! Got no idea what these are worth but bought it for £36 Bargain!!2 points

Morning everybody, I've probably read everything in the section, with fond memories, and dare I say it, thought I'd might have a quick contribution, and share my hazy recollections, of this brief tech. With a tip of the hat to Cavey.. Let me say, I've not played all the Castle machines, Crackerpot, and the club machine being very elusive, but I did play the rest. Late 80's I did the rounds between Liverpool - Southport - New Brighton, and played in most of the arcade in those areas. Southport, was the most interesting, with the biggest arcades, diversity, and there must of been over 20 arcades back in the early 80's. Caesers Palace, was on the main strip (Neville Street), and they had two, a Revolution, and a Tensation. The large LED, screen, was the attraction, sounds where different, seemed taller, and ahead of anything else in the arcade. Reel symbols, where high quality, and well lit. And watching the gameplay, I knew this was going to be dangerous, as I found it very addictive. And it was. There was always something going on, exchanges for feature holds, skill stops, the 20p or £2 exchange. Revolution was very good, with fairly easily skill stops, cash pots, that could be gambled, and a repeat feature afterwards...what more could you ask for? Tensation, was the main pull, with the hint of a £10er with the 1 to 10 cash climb, with ideally the pound or two pound repeater, offered in a way, you thought you had a chance, of guessing the correct window, the win was behind.. Yes it had nothing to do with skill or luck, but you was fooled that it just might. Best streak on this was £5, and I was just hitting the first window each time. The 20p gamble exchange for hi-lo, I had never saw done successfully. Anyone else do it? The Jackpot was not that easily, and always nudges that achieved this. Never gambled to the jackpot, although the cash pot did could fill for the jackpot, or be gambled, once again, I have never seen this done. The cash pot, was an awful feature, never more than a £1, and would wipe out that nice nudge pot you was holding out for. But like I said..there was always something going on to aim for, and it went from 10p a go, to throwing in the pounds, and I could and did lose quite a bit, but all n the name of amusement. Cashbolt for some reason, I played, but would move on to another castle machine, I think there wasn't enough features, and the main feature.."Cashbolt" was a tricky one to complete, for relatively low wins. Drum roll.. So this leaves Big 50. This machine with the biggest balls in the arcade. Quite a few in Liverpool started out as £4 jackpot for the bars, but, that was changed quickly to an all cash £2 option. For those who have never seen or played it. The top glass, was lit up with a matrix of 25 £2 notes. So big, it was used to scroll messages in the attract mode. The gameplay was simple. Complete the word "Big Fifty" with overlaid numbers on the reels, and you was offered a yes/no chance to win £2. Get lucky, and it would light one note on the top glass. And it would keep on going until you hit "no" or..the dreaded no credit, where you had to complete repeat feature of yes/no AND THEN continue with yes/no for another note. High rollers where logged on the LED display, with best ever wins, and today's best, similar to Moneybelt / Supatrack from JPM. Personal best was £10, and I witnessed £22. But what happened to these machines? They seemed so popular, different, and must of been good for the operators, but they disappeared, within a few years. Several years later, when ACE, brought out Play It Again, I thought it was a new castle machine, but it was not..well not totally, as I have learnt the tech was warmed over for the SP:Ace platforms?? If this is correct. Anyway, what is other peoples recollections of these machines?? Oldskooler.1 point

Yes fully agree. Love the machine and me and my 13 year old have spent hours on it. Surprised i remember the reels after 40 years. Got the bug and want another one. My favourite was always Nudge Double Up Deluxe Mk1 and Mk2. Then its a Xenon pinball thanks all again1 point

Ok mate thanks for looking .I believe they are out there somewhere fingers crossed1 point

I feel that 12+ - is too high, try loading them up with a car type bulb, 5W will do the trick and then see what the voltage is. Your +15 is low, possibly knackered capacitor. I absolutly would not plug a board into this power supply until you are 100% sure it is fully repaired, those boards are difficult to find now.1 point

@stanmarsh14, get your pants on and get up in that loft mate and dig these glasses out1 point

as Mavroz has predicted, the 50v has burnt the board up because the battery has leaked and caused the paxolin board to become leaky and conductive and it has arched across, you most likely find it has arched across to the 5v line blowing up many other chips as well, that will unlikely to be the ONLY damage, more component damage will be very likely anywhere on the board1 point

Put a picture of the board in this thread showing the battery and surrounding area. This may have leaked giving you a "fried" Mpu as it may have caused 50vac to go where it shouldn't. PSU is probably fine. If it has..... New Mpu required.1 point

JPM Superchance club electro from 1975. One of my favourite JPM club machines and very popular in it's time. This one looks good but the cabinet has been painted and later buttons fitted1 point

right go to the control panel and the two main timers nearest you as it shows on back door diagram look at the main control sequence timer. If it has it's grey cover it can be easily removed as just clipped on revealing the cams. With machine still switched on manually turn the timer by hand, it only rotates in one direction and the timer motor should take over and it should rotate one full turn and reels will start and stop as they would if a game had been played. See if this makes any difference?1 point

Without your ability to keep finding these problems Bob, I think we would be in trouble! Quite good to see these write ups and what goes into finding the faults! Amazing 👍👍👏1 point

This next one had me scratching my head a little. After changing a few chips, CPU buffers, and IC16 (near the battery) it still wouldn't boot. I eventually got down to IC30 (74LS32) which showed signals in on pins 12 + 13 but nothing on 11? Changed the chip but no difference? Time to bring the scope in. This showed a nice waveform on pin 12 but pin 13 it was only about 1.5v p to p? The logic probe was happy to display the pulse which led me up the garden path. So, where was the signal going? Checking the resistance to ground showed about 15 Ohms! Hmm, should be a few Meg Ohms. This is where things started to get tricky. The signal on pin 13 is BWE/CRUCLK and this is fed (or so I assumed) from IC29 pin 12 (74LS14). However this wasn't the case. On this chip it's shown on the diagram to have the same designation both sides and the 15 Ohm short was on the input side (pin 13)! This is then fed to all the I/O chips (8255's), the TMS9902's and a few other places I didn't bother with. So where does one start? I didn't want to start cutting tracks so Baldrick suggested a cunning plan. Checking the resistance it was decreasing by about 0.01 Ohm the nearer to the fault. I eventually ended up at IC38 (pin 36), there's an error on the diagram here as there's two pins marked 36!! (+ve and WR). Anyway with pin 36 disconnected the short disappeared. Without the chip in it actually booted and could run some of the diags so hopefully it should be a case of a new one and put it to bed.1 point
