I've taken delivery of my Bell-Fruit Big Dipper, and I'm very pleased with the overall condition. It plays well, although I'll be giving the reel mech a good going-over, clutch discs re-oiled etc.. I've got rid of the previous owner's 'improvements', the multi-colour flashing LEDs in the 'coin accepted' and 'hold available' lights, but there's been some messing-about with the 'hold' arrangements. Once you get the Dipper feature, you get multiple holds, which is definitely NOT how it ought to be. The HOLD arrangement is more complicated than the 'TARGET' machine, which has a simple anti-hold relay, which pulls-in after registering a win, or the player using a hold. This one has a rotary hold selector, which turns correctly, and pauses momentarily to set the hold for the following game, but the contacts side of it has had lots of contacts crudely strapped together, even though the wire to the wiper is off! It took me ages to find the variator. I knew it had one, because the controller runs in short bursts; but it wasn't in the usual place at the bottom of the cab, next to the PSU. It's actually on the reel spindle, alongside what looks like a sort-of 'fourth reel', except just the contact plate and brushes. It makes one turn AFTER the three reels have stopped. Never seen that before. I'll have to work out what it does. Plenty to go at after work, then. I'll keep you informed as I go along.2 points

Will use my positronic brain to make the perfect Dx within 20 minutes. Data needs to make a few tweaks to his matrix and neural net first, beaming up to The Enterprise D in a few moments.1 point

It's not used on 777 heaven, but I don't know about other games. Imo it looks better to have all the digit segments working at the cost of a missing decimals point... But better if it's used and visible too.. Here is one I hacked earlier to use the right decimal point so only 3 of the 4 get used... Then I noticed non lit in normal game play1 point

yep a mpu board fault, nothing to do with displays, I would stop disconnecting and plugging in displays with the machine running as this is likely to cause lamp drive transistors to blow with the arching which happens when you do this, board most likely has battery rot damage / and or chip damage1 point

A jackpot of £20+ lit bank for three pigs, The drawback to these machines was the two progressive jackpot windows. Although in the small print declaring that a close sequence of large wins may reduce the number of coins paid out. Like the Tic Tac Dough, Although £30 printed on columns did not guarantee a £50 jackpot.1 point

Designed especially for bingo halls, Notice sticker on the top flash, "10p per person please". In 70s the players would stand in queue and when they were one arm machines insert one coin, pull handle and then give up machine to next in line while they went to back of queue again. the rule was you were only allowed extra go if you got a win and that was to run win line off, some did not even allow that. Saw many a fight break out over people stealing extra plays. Same applied to this COPS machine, 10p in which auto starts machine, no holds or nudges, If you win then auto payout. Notice the divided payout tray so other players or anyone really could get change to save time, A gimmick that did not last, Imagine playing machine and people constantly stepping up next to getting change must be annoying plus depleting the 10p tubes1 point
