  5. A fair bit of time has been spent on the board with the 53v rail burn out and as expected the silicon count is horrendous. At present all the PIO's have been swapped out, most the transistors and a few other small chips. The good news is it's now functioning, not correctly yet but at least it does run. One issue I came across which may be of some interest was the lamp OVER CURRENT circuit. Both transistors had gone to silicon heaven and looking at the circuit all looks correct. However the board had R42 & 43 reversed so the 10K was across T14. These resistors looked original too so must have been incorrect from the factory. Comparing with the other board, with the audio chip burn out, and the resistors had been renewed and refitted to the correct way round so somebody knew this already! I've looked at some later PCplus boards and they are also correct. Not a particularly good pic but the 10K is R42 and the 1K R43 as per the diagram but they are the wrong way round! Still a few issues to sort out on this board, most things are working although something isn't right on the lamps somewhere. I can get it to clock up credits but it won't play correctly and this is only with the door open. With it closed it just alarms so there's still a little gremlin in there somewhere.

  8. Its a long time ago now, System 6 might have been renamed Impact. We had a lot of internal names for the systems that was different from what was publicly known, one was called Eric for instance. I've forgotten now which that was.

  12. Points of frustration that only an owner of an SRU machine will know ..... 1 being easy :-) 10 being an utter bastard ! Changing fuses anywhere on the machine 1 out of 10 Changing 12v Bayonet bulbs on the lamp masks 2 out of 10 Changing floro tubes background lighting x 2 3 out of 10 Changing 12v wedge bulbs on the start--Nudge up--Hold x 3 buttons 4 out of 10 Re-fitting lamp masks to glasses 6 out of 10 Removing and re-fitting the reel glass (scare factor) 7 out of 10 Refitting the damned display board (stretching beyond belief in a confined space) 8 out of 10 grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Changing reel phase/ lamp transistors on an SRU controller (i need a magnifying glass and soldering like a ninja) 9 out of 10 The worst job by far (for me) refitting the silver coin bevel , illuminated red coin insert, rusty reject spring & interlocking shroud on my OWN ..I was almost in tears what an utter BASTARD of a job ...do not ever attempt this on your own with the reel glass still in place!! lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooo you have been warned 😉 10 out of 10 Cheers Stef

  14. Came across this today in one of our work storage container's so i thought id take a couple of pics. This is spent nearly 7 years in storage but is still in the same condition it was when i put it there. PSU,Boards and monitors where removed before storage. This is going to be brought into the workshop in the spring for a full restoration. I've been doing loads of software R&D stuff on GUAB hardware over the last few weeks and threads for that and and the 2 machine (the one above and the one from kent)restorations will be created in the new year. A nice few projects for 2021 to look forward to.
