Started covering the wood tonight. Think this will be a slow job but it needs to be done. The first bits have turned out ok. They are not perfect but much better than I thought they would look.

Thanks for the links Riche:) I really miss the old days of Blackpool (70's-80's) As a teenager I used to try and play as many fruit machines as possible, in as many arcades as possible. Then I would spend as long as possible in the fun house on the pleasure beach. Last time I went to the pleasure bitch....I mean beach. I lost as much as possible, in as short a time as possible! I had to chuckle at the winter gardens bit in the video. I remember going to an arcade expo there in around 1999. I took a friend of mine with me, and was asked to sign him in. I had to think of a fake role for him, so put him down as a "fruit machine tester" which was dually printed on his badge. He seemed quite proud of it at the time. Happy days.

All those wires make me think it might be before shunts were used in the bulbs... (So if the filament blows there's still a closed circuit). Can't see why you'd have so much wiring otherwise. If one lamp blows on those it probably takes out a reduced string of lamps rather than the whole lot. Could have just been a guy that liked his job made them of course.

LoL modern day push in lights. Remember the screw in lights , didn’t matter how gentle you wrapped them the year before there would always be blown or loose bulbs the next Christmas and even though through the year no one moved them the wire would always be tangled 😆

Backlighting them with a led light box doesn’t really show much, incandescent lights will be so much better!
