  1. It will be a generic 27256 I’d imagine. Set your eprom reading software to ignore chip ID and just dump as 27C256. That’s what I used to do if I couldn’t see the chip ID J

  2. I agree with @jocky581 it's tricky to measure the voltage across one bulb because that bulb need to be in circuit too. Measuring across one empty bulb holder will give you a misleading reading with the voltage reading affected by the meter resistance. I would take one of the wire ended bulbs out of it's holder and temporarily fit a pair of fine wires instead, then you can connect the bulb and measure while everything is in circuit. Sometimes on fairy light sets the bulbs are underun slightly such as 20 x 12V bulbs in mains sets, with mains usually about 220V these days the bulbs get 220/20 = 11V. That's not a bad thing as it extends the bulb life. For that very reason I recently modified a 20 bulb set to become a 22bulb set which gives each bulb 10V and extended life. Good luck.

  3. As they are series, the current is common to all the bulbs, but the voltage is shared by each bulb, 24 volts divided into 30 bulbs, is 0.8 volts per bulb, this seems very low, I am wondering if that control box has a step up voltage system, that gives say 110v so then each bulb would be around 3.66v, and if 220v then 7.2v at 1.5 volts per bulb, the voltage should be around 45volts, its difficult to measure the voltage at any given socket as it requires the string to be fully working, if its to give a reasonable answer, if you put a high impedance meter such as a DVM in series, the reduced current means it might actually show the total supply voltage to the string, or depending upon the resistance ratio, a bit less, see resistance in series, it just adds up, whilst in parallel it should show the volt drop across the bulb.

  11. Squeeze some wood glue into the split end and clamp it. When it's dried give it a good spit and polish. It'll be nice to have an original part within the machine.

  12. You're exactly right, that's the only difference. JPM were notoriously lazy on their upgrade glasses - they didn't even bother to redesign the reel glasses to reflect the newer style fruit graphics that they had upgraded to! I suspect that this machine has an original top glass but a new reel glass.
