  1. This picture reminds me of an early job I had to do in the Blueroom arcade. They were redoing the bingo and had used equipment sent down to us. A lot of the control boards were faulty so we devised a simple test setup with croc clips, micro switches and bulbs. I would connect each board, power it up and cycle through the 1 coin=1 card/2 coin=2 card then remote reset sequences and find/repair the fault. Mind you, this was all running at 240volts and in a careless moment, a board came to rest upon a croc clip. The blinding flash and explosion jarred me to my bones......then I realized it had gone quiet and dark. Dark, well OK the workshop breaker had tripped but why the quiet ? I staggered out of the workshop door to see about 1/3 of the arcade dark and Big John Craig (senior tech) running towards me lol. I had tripped a whole phase to the arcade. Needless to say, a revised test setup was produced and all boards were eventually repaired and put into service. https://www.seasphotography.org.uk/gwc/y8xeul5e0yt68g8nqdzgv4j2o2qb53

  2. Crimping the pins is the easy bit! Getting the old ones out is the tricky bit. In this case you don't have to so it's not a worry. I think I used to use my Molex tool, which made a good crimp albeit these are AMP connectors. These are far too expensive for a small one off job like this. There are plenty of others on Ebay varying from absolute rubbish to not too bad. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXLmuDbcLBM&t=8s In quite a few cases the actual male pins in the board connector have had it and replacing the females, although a lot better, won't last the test of time. I've never found any replacements for the male pins that solder to the board and in that case a donor board for the whole connector is the only solution, assuming the connector is still good.

  6. Great stuff. Reminds me of my many trips, with mates to the Kent coast from South East London. A couple of adults with Family Railcards and 8 - 12 kids all going for £1 on the card and trips to Herne Bay, Westgate, Margate, Broadstairs and Ramsgate. Margate were our favourite days, because of the amount of arcades and the theme park. Broadstairs our least favourite because I don't think there were any arcades or maybe just one, but Margate was like Blackpool, littered with them. As ever also, reminds me of the old days at Butlins at Bognor. I remember when it had a large bingo area and the rest of the arcade, was 3/4 full of arcade cabinets, Carnival, Bomb Jack etc.. and a quarter full of MPU3, Sys 80's etc.. and the Cromptons Cake Walk. 5p/10p play was far too rich for me to play though, as we were a one parent family, so I watched more than played and put pennies in the Cake Walks.
