  1. Good evening πŸ™‚ With another lockdown weekend approaching, what better way to spend it than by banging a few quid through a nice 2p PCP game from the late 80s? There's a slight backstory to this layout. There was a resources group-buy over 13 years back for this machine kindly organised by @VINNY130172 which myself and a few good people chipped in for. Vinny fixed it back up so it was working but unfortunately due to storage issues he had to move the machine on, so it ended up with me. It stayed in my garage getting played very infrequently for years and it was a shame having it gathering dust. Every time I went into the garage it was sat there looking at me and the guilt became a bit too much. Luckily there was @stevelancett on the forum who I knew would look after it, so he came down one day to pick it up, and now it's in a nice warm container surrounded by friends πŸ˜ƒ So this DX layout has been in the pipeline for 13 years or so and for me it's been a labour of love over the last few months during lockdown to do one of my favourite games justice. I hope you all enjoy it - and please, gamble responsibly πŸ˜‰ Thanks to all those who helped chip in for the group buy all those years ago, and especially thanks to the late Wizard for making this layout and so much more possible πŸ™‚ Shortcuts in layout notes - use MFME 20.1 - looks best in portrait πŸ‘ Cheers! 4. LOL It is like really really badly battery damaged MPU boards, they can ALL be fixed! BUT it is how much time, effort and money it is worth to put into it!! and most 'collectors' just want a cheap fix so they can put it on ebay for more money than it cost them πŸ˜†

  14. Thanks for this. I read the post of the machine being restorated and how the photo's were taken to allow you to create the DX. Very interesting to follow. Nice game, I particularly like the cue action effected used on the feature lights. Thanks for the great layout.

  15. Wondering if anyone has amended the software for old fruit machines to make it truly random? Was thinking this mainly on Line Up where you would always get 3s when you didn't want them and rarely get to higher nudges. So I thought how would it pan out if the reel spins were truly random? Just thought could be fun to see and if you actually made significantly more out of it... Would assume feature and normal holds would be kept at similar probability as usual. Presume if you looked at the software code then you could change it to make it totally random and make it not tied to any fixed percentages unless it's written that the % is so tied into the code that it would need a whole rewrite to make it truly random. I'm aware that there is nothing that can ever be truly random due to the initial number seed but you'd hope it could be made so would be different each time you switch the mahcine on. I'm no software expert so might be way off, but logically would have thouight would be possible but no idea if anyone has looked at the program code (I know people have done this for old video games like Pac Man)? Of course this could apply to any fruit machine not just Line Up. The other thought I had would be try to do this manually as follows: - get reel bands (Can't see any images on line, so at very basic level can list fruits in order on each reel; would be better to get pictures of each fruit to make my own reel band but will be time consuming as would need to do one by one) - count number of fruits and then use a random number genearator for each reel to generate the spin to see which fruit in on the win line - apply numbers to the Line Up grid - genearte two other random numbers for chance of hold and feature hold. No idea of true % but would have started at 33% chance and reduce if seemed too much. Would be intersted to hear if anyone has tried to amend software or if can produce a ROM for the emulator to make it random and any thoughts or ideas anyone has on my suggestion to make it easier to do manually eg best way to get reel bands images? Cheers Greg

  17. Many thanks that’s a kind offer!! I presume it’s finally bit the dust because of being turned on and off probably thousands of times as this was the display I used all through the pic development work I did too, most likely it got Voltage spiked one to many times! I liked that display as there was nothing on the back of it to damage or knock components off!!

  18. If that doesn’t fix it Andrew. I’ll send you one I’ve loads of those

  19. Most displays have a little transformer on them to generate the 1v ac and 90v ac the displays need, this has a capacitor diode voltage doubler circuit x5 and no output from it!! checking round with a meter and all diodes are fine! It is driven by a 4093 chip wired as a oscillator, the outputs drive a NPN/PNP driver transistors which feed the doubler circuit, One PNP transistor was short and the other was leaky, the NPN transistors measured fine, the faulty ones are just marked 91A so a quick check on the internet revealed them to be FMMT591A transistors, so are now in order!! (51p plus vat each)

  20. Good point, there should be a way round it. Now that Barcrest no longer exist I don't imagine there'll be anyone with an appetite for legal action against an enthusiast doing whatever to keep a collectors item machine going, especially if it's not in the world wide public domain and not done for profit. In the classic car world no longer available parts are sometimes remanufactured by enthusiasts without any problems.

  26. Traditional fruit machines work on compensators. Basically a compensator is a pot that stores money. At certain levels money is released and the machine pays out. To make a machine run totally random you would need to set the reel bands up to pay the correct percentage. Long story short if you managed to make a Line Up random using current bands it wouldn't play right or hit the correct RTP. Here's a demo of random bands generated by random. The wins are set up but not 2 of a kind. If you ran this through a million games the RTP would be way off.

  28. ok, well this you might be interested in, the original old pic with the label on which doesn't work and a new pic chip with no label on, BOTH have just been programmed with the same file! all passed correctly on verification, but you can see the one with the label refuses to work! I put it in 1st and 3rd, the new one is shown 2nd, so it does show the pic chips do fail, something I have not seen before unless its been inserted the wrong way round! And yes the chip is now discontinued from RS so quality of new ones cannot be guaranteed!

  34. Ginger, you've done it again! Superb layout - it's like standing in front of the machine and the sheer joy of gambling up to the Β£2 jackpot and hearing those coins fill the cash tray is amazing. Great work and thanks to you and the gang that helped make this possible, not least of all Wizard for giving us the most wonderful platform to keep those memories alive.

  36. Hi guys its been a while since i have posted over here at MPU mecca .... its been a funny old year ... with C19 and loss of Wizard, some serious bad shit this year just to cap it off for me, i ended up testing positive 3 weeks ago, although im now on a full recovery it was not enjoyable, But on a positive side im hoping this will prevent me getting it again if my antibodies can break through the red wine in my bloodstream So firstly i would like to wish everyone a happy new year ( its got to be better than the last pile of poo ) anyway the reason for posting here was i was over at another forum that deals with vintage mechanical slot machines and some one posted a link to the George Wilson Arcade photo collection, i have never seen this before and found it fantastic ... so thought i would share it with you guys, if you have already seen it great, if you have not ... then you will love it here is a taster photo here is the Link to the collection https://www.seasphotography.org.uk/georgewilson Enjoy ... all the best ... 39. That is it!! Everyone is different!! It’s not a case of one chip fits all!! I helped a member with a super lineup when he wanted to change the software, I helped as much as I could, then postage too, he discovered it then did not match his machine ( software was made for a different one with different lighting looms) so sent me the card yet again to put his original chip back in! and I sent it back again at my cost. so I lost out there, postage costs too! I might as well thrown the money down the drain! Lol!

  40. well I hope you can find a loan of a guaranteed working card, I loaned one to someone a few years back to help with looking into T777 machine security, I never got it back and the person never helped me one bit! so I learnt my lesson there and don't do that again! As for the security chips, I can see why Barcrest have now stopped doing them as the chip they use is now well obsolete and I guess there stocks of this old chip are used up! Barcrest certainly are not going to port the program code in the pic chips to a newer version that's for sure! Chips really don't like being in the line of fire of battery vapours over years so can see why they fail on this tech just like chips on other older tech go bad! I can see this becoming a real bad failure point with MPU5 RTC cards!

  41. Hi again andrew I will look to check my voltage tonight but im sure on all 3 cards voltage is good at least over 2v. They have not soldered my chip on the board but have said this is a method they have used in the past to get things working. a option that would give me a almost certain answer was if someone was to loan me either a guaranteed working mk3 board or a guaranteed working RTC pic chip i could then test my chip with cf in on the working board and see if i get the bootstrap and pic id read out or could put the working chip in the 3 boards and see if any of them read it out. im still leaning towards faulty boards as the 2 boards a bought off a guy he tested with what he believed was working rtc chips and said he could not get them to read chips obviously i new this before buying so got them at a discounted price but like i said i though there would be a better chance of these ones being repaired having had the original battery still fitted.... im again abit at a lost on what to do without sourcing the above as ive also said chris has said about sending all 3 of my cards and the mpu5 im using for them to test but yet thats more postage money that could be a waste of time..

  42. 3 red 6 green is NO CHARACTERISER (6 red 3 green is reel reset error 20-64) so the fault of NO CHARACTERISER has not been fixed by the company that took your money and said they can fix it! (I did say in the other thread, and think they would not be able to fix it as they just do battery changes, well they have taken down there web page saying they fix the NO CHARACTERISER error now ) all these different threads makes it so confusing! your problem now is either of these.... (1) the board has not been fixed fully/correctly (components DO blow on these cards easily) (2) the pic chip is not working (3) the pic chip is not the right code for the installed software (4) the pic chip is not running/functioning correctly obviously it doesn't appear to have been tested to make sure it works before they sent it back to you the error is telling you there is still a fault with the security side
