  1. The reel drive shaft is very rusted and will take some cleaning, The cut outs along the shaft are for locating the locking studs on the clutch collars. The reel motor as expected the grease in the gearbox is just in solid lumps but first inspection shows no damage to the drive shafts and cogs but even those have rust. Finally stripped to most of it's major component parts but plenty to do.

  2. My twopenneth for what it's worth. There will always be those who make money from other people's hard work. I think that a good example of this is the selling of DVD's on EBay with MFME and rom's. Andrew has obviously spent a lot of time finding a solution, why would he put it in the public domain in a step by step, easy to understand format, to allow others to profit? I certainly wouldn't. Both Andrew and Mick (fruit58) have helped me a lot in the past and I have a great deal of respect for both of them. If you read the post, Andrew has pretty much spelled out the solution for you. As I say, just my opinion.

  4. Took delivery of my ACE Ring a Bell today. Very clean cabinet and glasses. Reel mech. was dislodged, but no problem, once I'd realised it's a front-opener, and stopped trying to take the back off! Lights came on straight away, and the mech soon came free, with a little help. The coin acceptors don't work, as usual. There's a triple on the left, for 6d, 5p and 10p; and a single slot on the right for ACE token, which some buffoon has bodged to take 20 pence piece. The ONLY pay-out tube is for the ACE tokens, and the 10p acceptor gives two tokens change, plus two plays. (Except it doesn't. It only gives one). If these are the only problems, it looks like being a good machine. I'm going to need a quantity of ACE tokens, or their equivalent.

  7. A reset fault on the MPU will cause that clicking on the PSU too. Very old and temperamental tech. A nice machine, one of my favorite of all time. Skill cash is always skill too

  9. I'm sure it's going to be pristine when it's done. I've got a phobia about taking decks apart as Nick knows, I always seem to end up with a few springs and screws that don't go anywhere! What do you do about the wipers? I've seen a few decks where these are mangled and using my old BT relay adjusting tools I've managed to get them failrly straight and tensioned but if they break then you're stuffed.

  11. you can program a pal chip to be a rom, its only like a table effectively but it cannot contain as much as a rom, most likely used as it didn't need to contain much data as it was the end of the program so it would fit onto a pal chip, I did similar years ago with a video board where the chip it used was well obsolete and only contained a table of data, so it worked perfectly, the advantage of using a pal chip is it is much much much quicker at accessing the data to a rom

  12. Got a 12k CPU on the bench and it's an odd one. Anyone ever seen a PAL fitted before in the ROM socket?? The CPU left a broken leg stuck in the socket so the socket had to come out. Horrible job as always. Anyway with a new socket fitted I thought I'd try soldering on a piggy back leg on the CPU. Blow me it only worked. Trouble is quite a few of the legs are almost falling off so I don't think it's got that long to go in this life! The issue I have now is the software doesn't run, at least not like any other game I've tried. It boots, there's no reel spin, all the lamps flash in a quick sequence stop for a few seconds and start again. Some of the switches do something eg 0x6H stops the flashing and then switches single lamps on and off with each operation? 0x5H normally has to be thrown as nothing works otherwise, but in this case it makes no difference. I'm going to dump the ROMs later to see if there might be a clue there but not sure what the PAL is going to read?

  13. The first task was to strip the unit down, Something that had not been done for many years. All the parts were rusted and seized. There are differences to the build of these mechs compared to BF and JPM. The reel studs are on the reel drum board and the wipers on the reel board which is opposite to the other manufacturers setup. On removing the reel boards the damage to the wipers is easily spotted, corrosion, evidence of some sort of possible lubricant and bent wiper arms, most probably had missed payout and the work applied to get the machine to register wins.

  15. i dont think its a personal attack andrew but its just difficult to be given half the story and when your so frustrated cause your machine wont work and someone has the answers but wont tell you as they think someone is going to get profitable gain from it you just lose all hope... lol like is say it not like there is plenty of other options here as no one offers a full guaranteed fix service
