Eventually got to the bottom of this one. The clue was the fact that it wouldn't run game software and whilst searching for a reason I discovered that the 'Rom select 2 ' o/p from IC11 (CF70045) was floating in the breeze! With the diags it only has one chip so doesn't use it. Of course IC11 is always the chip that is soldered in! Once removed and with a new socket fitted I thought I'd check out the chip in another board in IC15 which is the same chip. It also failed to boot there too so I knew I was on to a winner. So with a new CF70045 fitted the game booted and ran just fine. Next check was to go back to the diags and check test 0x18 which also passed with flying colours.

New clear acrylic tube arrived today. Sorry again Nick 😀

Coin mech tonight. Thought I’d give them a quick clean but decided on a full strip down instead. The main issue was the oxidation under the zinc plating. Once it’s taken hold you can only clean it up but it’s still obvious. I’ve got another 3 EM’s to sort once this one is finished but I intend to strip them all down again and have all of the parts shotblasted and zinc plated.
