  3. Started on Take Your Pick yesterday afternoon. As Ron pointed out, a conversion on BFM's well-known Lucky Two's. This machine has a flaking sidewall on the right of the cab, where the chipboard/sawdust board has expanded through damp. It's better than it was, through standing in the warmth, but I'm not sure if I will ever be happy with it. Perhaps there's some spray-on treatment for it? The insides are remarkably clean. The BELL-FRUIT part of it is responding nicely: a new 'right hold' relay, and some time freeing-off the reel motor. It'll need the clutch discs soaking; it's under load when you hold all three. The 'feature' is going to be fun. First job is to work out what it's SUPPOSED to do, followed by finding out why it DOESN'T. All part of the fun...

  4. I use the Duratool one. It is at the budget end but it suits me fine. I would recommend you buy lots of spare gun filters too and a few cleaning/unblocking rods (don't know what they are called).

  9. So good to see these restoration s happen like this .these bob versions of the classic s aren't everyone s cuppa but they still need saving and its about what we remember playing .the cab and parts have obviously seen better days but everything or nearly everything is restorable .with most of the metal work covered in rust i would get the lot powder coated .they will lightly shot blast each part and the power coat is a good robust way of doing the parts .my local place in brum does the frames for about £15 each the deck about the same and all the smaller parts probably a few quid to a fiver each. All.in all maybe £100 to do.the lot maybe slightly less . If you don't want to spend that then get some wire cups that attach to angle grinders and also wire wheels that afix to power drills and take the rust off manually. It'll take some time .use hammerite smooth silver for most of the parts and find a medium grey gloss for the frames .I think players thread has covered various colour options for the frames. Black smooth hammeritre is good too or car spray paint .use a good grey spray primer too .by the time you've bought all.the sprays and paints and wire cups and wheels you are looking at £50 so for another 50 or so quid you can get the powder coaters to do all.the hard work .

  12. Haha no you don’t need it as well but if you are desoldering a d sub connector it’s best to remove most of the solder from the retaining clips with the wick as these can have a lot of solder.

  15. This next one had me going all the way to the finish line but as per usual I wasn't going to be beaten. The board was listed as 'dead, no power' and it was well and truely dead on power up even after all the usual suspect transistors and other bits had been replaced. As there was no triac test, suspicion first pointed to IC8 (68B21) but a swap out proved it to be OK. All outputs appeared to be OK from the CPU but after swapping it out, and the RAM, things started to happen! it would now boot but showed the second half of the lamps stuck on (64-127), there was also a motor drive stuck on. This was caused by two ULN2803's IC13 and 30. Unfortunately IC13 going bad had also damaged IC3 (68B21) so that had to be swapped out too. So it's all running and I'm going through all the tests OK thinking it's nearly time to wrap up when 'click' it all stops!! Hmm switch off and on and I get '6840 IC2 error' on the Alpha. In with a new one and no difference? Left it for a bit, came back and this time it's RS232 error but the Alpha is one character out of sequence?? After a few more power cycles the 6840 error comes back? Now I'm going demented as nothing is making sense! Putting my logic hat on and not my panic hat showed that it was definitley changing fault when warming up and eventually squirting freezer and warming IC5 (68B21) showed it to be the cause. After a swap out all was back running correctly. PHEW!! Mind you looking at the state of it I'm surprised it worked it all!

  17. Heres the rat race ones that Tony scanned on the same scanner just printed by different printers..... They all added up when measured and should be good. Sure they will nail it rich, if these had been wrong too id believe we stuffed it up but they are fine mate. Looking forward to seeing them when they get it right 🙂

  18. thank you canonMan for your kind offer and the plan is warlord , hopefully I will be picking up a mpu4 cab in the next few weeks and putting it all back together fingers crossed 🤞 and yep luckily the loom and glasses and lamp mask and buttons are in great condition every thing else can possibly be replaced if it doesn't work or can’t be cleaned up so I have got the main ingredients to make a good project 😁

  21. Here’s a few minutes of play. It works pretty much as it should although I’m going to strip it down when I’ve finished the ten up. It’s also been switched to new 10p’s and the 50p disconnected. I shall remedy that as a matter of urgency. Nice addition to the collection though. I now have more EM’s than MPU’s. IMG_1098.MOV
