Desolder tool is amazing. I'm fixing broken tracks on back. The tracks on tops are too thin in places so just not working. I'm happy that the board is clean enough. Will soon see1 point

Club machines more often than not do not have a stake / prize key. The stake and prize are governed by the software on the rom version. Sometimes these are changeable on the mpu dip settings as per the game manual if it is possible.1 point

I did get a couple of pictures of one with Bobs bubbling up around the Amp chip area. It takes ages scraping to get rid of it. Hope these help mate. I'll probably log some of these ones when they're done.1 point

following on from the above post, i did some probing inside the psu and although the output side of the 5v regulator was smooth, the input side had quite a bad ripple on it, i followed it back to the 10000uf cap, replaced that (with a 15000uf one as i didn't have 10000uf) and everything is working spot on, display and all. typical. just goes to show though... even if a problem looks pretty technical, don't forget to check the simple obvious things!! lesson learnt!1 point

so after nearly 9 hours i finally think i have figured it out. and the fault was so simple that it has been overlooked a few times. if you watch the EEVblog on youtube you will of heard the first rule of troubleshooting.... "thou shalt check voltages" well here is the 5v rail as viewed on the scope.... i had checked the rail while having the board and psu set up on the bench with no peripherals attached and it was perfect, no ripple at all, i never even thought to check it in the machine untill i was probing address and data lines that i accidentally probed the 5v line and saw that! unplugging the peripherals one by one it turns out its the alpha that is dragging the rail down. i can only assume that it is outgassing and starting to draw too much current. and yes, with the alpha unplugged the sound is perfect and the game plays fine. such a simple result after chasing my own tail for over a day!! one other thing i noticed... with the psu on the floor and not connected to the machines earth connections. the board stayed in reset untill the reel connector was disconnected, there is a black wire on pin 2 of the reel plug that connects to an earth terminal on the cabinet. once this was removed the board booted fine. im not sure why this is but im going to check all ground connections and make sure they are good but nothing looks bad from what i can see. anyway, if anybody has a display for sale, send me a message please thanks for the help guys. i hope this thread helps somebody else in the future1 point

Thats great info. Brilliant to hear that you have coded some routines using assembly language. I thought that was a dying art, nowadays for many software engineers its a simple case of using the easiest api available. I have enormous respect for what you have achieved and i hope that you are very proud of what you have accomplished. I know over time that when you work on something so intensely that you can lose reference to how much you have achieved. What you have done over the years is pure genius imo. Thank you1 point

Im fascinated by how much knowledge you have of the inner workings of the various techs Wizard. How did you even begin to work all of this out all those years ago when you first started ? It would be great to get an insight from you on it. I appreciate that you might think people are not interested or dont care, but im sure many of us would love to understand all of the challenges you have faced with the various techs over the years1 point
