Stay safe in India Dicky, they took their eye off the ball. I used to maintain the drinks vending machines at school, loved doing that. We had a few spare machines to strip for parts. Been trying to find one over here but they didn't seem to exist.2 points

That was mine, recognised not only by the metal foot plate but that red numbering all over it too.1 point

Ideally the active rot all needs to be removed from the board, by physically scraping it off... that includes under Ics and components everywhere effected back to bare copper. You can then clean and wash the boards to kill off any passive rot elsewhere or that's damaging components. Substances try to equalise ph on contact so you don't neccacerially need an acid to neutralise the alkaline material from batteries when cleaning. You just need more Quantity of a neutral substance. Some folks use vinegar but I'm not in the vinegar camp on my boards personally- especially on fragile boards like EPOCH. I use IPA but it's expensive and a bit of a fire hazard so the next thing I'm thinking about is RO or distilled water (no mineral or salt content just pure water). Usually non board people have a very different perspective on battery damage to a repair guy so some of those boards could be fairly totalled already unfortunately.1 point

Heres the rat race ones that Tony scanned on the same scanner just printed by different printers..... They all added up when measured and should be good. Sure they will nail it rich, if these had been wrong too id believe we stuffed it up but they are fine mate. Looking forward to seeing them when they get it right 🙂1 point

I can see some pretty petty ranting here.mr 96 is very good at what he does, maybe cause he has equiptment and knowledge, and he has worked hard,I would love it if he fixed my stuff but I know he has better things to do and ungrateful people who slag his work off.so I can see why he dont do it,and that's hassel,I've had similar so I only fix my own now.ive sent 3 maygay boards for repair with chips, sockets, gamecards solder resist etc and never got them back.when i asked it was excuses now I've not heard a thing in 2 years,so i avoid him now.it is a member on here and deffo not Andy.you know who you are and you should be ashamed, never replying, never letting me know what's happening, and never returning my property.1 point

You missed it all, if you don't understand electronics (which is totally fine btw). You're missing all the diagnosis and looking for something simple. Eg Replace component X, clean up, reseat the pic, blow into the connector... it's not that simple. There are problems with the Resonator circuit to the pic/RTC, when then the power is off and its on the +vbattery supply. Probably due to battery damage to the components and potentially pcb traces. That's Andrews help and it's great, its more than enough to work with(I got it).... even if it's something slightly different on yours you can still nail that area of the card. It's a huge effort to explain to someone inexperienced, Every single component, testing, how to remove SMD components, how to meter each trace, resonator circuits in general, pic chips etc. If you want to fix it you need to start researching all these things (YouTube is great). The problem is it might take 10hours of intense help... you might fail or get frustrated... no one can tell exactly whats failed or what damage is there... thats its asking too much. People can only help to a point because everyone has there own projects on. Don't be put off though just take your time and learn the area yourself.1 point

My twopenneth for what it's worth. There will always be those who make money from other people's hard work. I think that a good example of this is the selling of DVD's on EBay with MFME and rom's. Andrew has obviously spent a lot of time finding a solution, why would he put it in the public domain in a step by step, easy to understand format, to allow others to profit? I certainly wouldn't. Both Andrew and Mick (fruit58) have helped me a lot in the past and I have a great deal of respect for both of them. If you read the post, Andrew has pretty much spelled out the solution for you. As I say, just my opinion.1 point

If your thinking 'oh I will just clean it up' then that wont do, if you think 'oh I will just put the old components back' then that won't do, it has to be everything replaced, not a easy job and from the reply's on here in the past when I have posted about soldering equipment the standard reply is 'oh we are just hobbyists and cannot afford that sort of equipment' and you can see the jip I get even on a thread like this. Now I am off furlough and working for a living again designing and building electronic solutions for a company. I could now not be further away from fruit machine electronics. All this jip because I got a program card out to see if I could give you a few pointers and found my card did not work either!! wished I had not have bothered now finding my program card in the first place! lol1 point

I have already said, remove everything on the board in that area, all components, clean the bare board thoroughly with 99.9% IPA then reassemble with all new components, that's how to fix!1 point

So I am the only one in the world that can fix it properly? I don't believe that!! I am in full time paid employment far far away from fruit machine electronics, why is is down to me to fix other peoples problems?..... I have said many times I just document what I do myself for others interest (which I have done) Others show there machine restoration work but I doubt they would want other peoples machines in there house to do the same for others! I see nothing on there threads slating them for not doing that! so its no different just I am being singled out buy a jealous few as usual. Luckily for me I am in a different field of electronics now so don't have to have anything to do with fruit electronics and quite frankly with responses like this it is a good relief. Again I await to see others USEFUL posts on the problem rather than all this energy slating me! (I guess I will wait a long time!! lol)1 point

I think people can help as little or as much as they want. And that help can end at anytime Its all no big deal. If the issue doesn't get fixed the owner of the problem can look elsewhere if they are doing already or forget the whole thing Maybe time to lay this all to rest Stay safe on and all1 point

wow! I am so pleased there are not many really nasty people on here like you, the way to cure the pic ??? error is to remove all the components from the board, give it a good wash in 99% IPA then replace the components with new ones and the card will work again! I found no tracks broken so that's a bonus tracks didn't need repairing. Only problem is your need a better soldering iron than a £30 amazon special to do the work on the board, the components are tiny! that's how these are repaired, I don't really know what your gripe actually is as I practically spelled out in the pictures I posted!!1 point
-
Absolutely Hilarious!! and all this from someone that has NEVER taken the time to do a repair thread themselves!! total Hypocrite!1 point

ah now you have shown your true colours! 🤣 I would go and work out your frustrations somewhere else1 point

I await with great interest to see your posts and the solution to his problem as I cannot see you have given any help so far but criticise me! If your post was a inspirational way of getting me to help then I think you need to re look at your way of doing this as it doesn't make me want to give more information but LESS!! 🤣 I have my trusted group of friends who I will help and do things for as much as I am able which I am sure know who they are and that suits me just fine! Sadly your not and never will be one of them Mr moany fruit581 point

Andrew has given a load of knowledge and information of the whole area of the game card and the problem. Nobody else has contributed anything. There's enough to take in and have a think about. If I ever come across this prob I'll be coming back to this thread and have a crack myself. I've only skim read this thread a few times but it sounds like the area that's problematic is the resonator circuit to the rtc/pic when the powers off.... that's enough information lol? Obviously if your an engineer there's no end to people's problems there's no end to people want to make £££. How many people want there broken fruit machines repaired? Does Andrew have to do them all?1 point

Perhaps all you moaners could help the original poster!!!!! i await to see your helpful posts on this problem the poster has.....1 point

Lol!!! Where in the terms and conditions of using this site does it say helping and giving away information is compulsory??? until then..... shove it where the sun does not shine!!1 point

With others charging £48 without really knowing how to fix them and just poking about hoping they will fix them for that money , then I am not going to help them line there pockets with the info I have found out. One thing I hate is others making money from my work as has happened in the past, so your right I am not going to do this. They can be repaired buy not by the hapless way it is done at the moment (as you have found out). Sorry if this annoys you but I have my reasons1 point

LOL It is like really really badly battery damaged MPU boards, they can ALL be fixed! BUT it is how much time, effort and money it is worth to put into it!! and most 'collectors' just want a cheap fix so they can put it on ebay for more money than it cost them 😆1 point

LOL naa you cannot just copy what these big named players have done! that is a big infringement of copyright! although I only know of Maygay going after individuals over copyrights issuing cease and desist notices or else, these other big players are quite in there rights of going after copyright infringements! take Gottlieb for example which used to make pinballs, they actively go after anyone that puts any of there schematics online with a 'cease and desist or else' notice from there lawyers! Yes security chips are protected! lots of proprietary chips are! all barcrest chips that contain code on mpu5 are protected! you can design something that will do the same job as the original as long as it is different and not a direct copy of the original. or under licence from the makers getting licences from manufacturer's is virtually impossible, as you say they have no interest in supporting old tech (except Gottlieb) as you have found out this is why when I design something it has to be different from the original, take my JPM impact PCB's, the board is quite different to original jpm, but has the same function, the GAL chips do the same job but contain different code to original JPM chips! also in system 80 too my GAL chip code is not the same code as JPM....... same goes for security chips to! I spent around 9 months with a hired logic analyser obtaining data too and from the pic, I then many more months designing and testing the code to do the same job, but also this was just for my own use as red gaming Red Dwarf security chips did not exist and not available so this was the only way I could do it was to make one myself. I do not make chips for sale, I don't want to make chips for sale and this way I have no problem with anyone or anything.... Sorry if this sounds harsh to you but I don't need or want the hassles. My job now has nothing to do with fruit machines or keeping the general public happy. I have tried to help as much as possible, even pulling out a mpu5 and program card to try and help out on what is going on, but sorry if that is not good enough for you, it seems I have got in to helping too deep and it is still not good enough.1 point
