.... and some more. On switch on the board would clock up 18 credits, in fact every time it was switched on another 18 credits? Sometimes just touching the coin inputs with the scope probe or the meter would clock up credits. This little head scratcher turned out to be the 12v supply feeding the coin mech. Transistor T95 had a broken leg and hence no 12v was delivered to the coin mech so the inputs were floating. This was caused by bad storage of the board and it's a real bug bear as I see so many faults similar to this with broken/crushed components, broken tracks due to a deep scratch etc etc. Still, all in a days work. Had a couple that were dead but looked like they should be running? Previous repairs had taken place with regards to the transistors in the reset circuit but what hadn't been checked was the resistors. It's always good to change all 8 resistors in the middle and the three, or even four, at the top. I always use the fingernail test, applying slight pressure to the side of the resistor. If they are really bad the wire comes away from the body. They usually have green legs but not always so don't be fooled! In this case one of the 10K's failed the fingernail test and another one fell apart on removal. You can do a manual reset to prove the rest of the board is OK just by momentarily shorting CPU (26) to ground. If it then boots you know the reset circuit is misbehaving. Another real head scratcher was the reels not spinning correctly (or at all). I use my Arduino to fake a reel set and I have LED's to indicate the motor drives. In this case there was no drive to the odd reel motor coils although the evens were OK? This was a PC 92 and the reels are driven, odds from IC1 and evens from IC2. There were no outputs on IC1 whereas IC2 looked fine? You'd obvioulsy go straight to IC1 and swap it out but then what do you do when the spare is exactly the same! After not too long (I surprised myself here) I thought I'd just check the signal paths and eventually got round to the DATA bus. All were showing a signal on the scope but D7 didn't look right. It looked like there was lots of information missing due to big gaps in the waveform. Checking D7 on the CPU showed what I expected to see so I'd sussed it there was a break somewhere. That was good news as it's faults like this that cause me to jump in the Thames! If you've ever tried to trace a track on these boards it's horrendous, and for the life of me I couldn't find where the connection was between all the PIO's and the main DATA bus back to all the other chips. To make some headway I just put a tack wire back to the CTC chip and BINGO all the motor drives were now working. Get that wine bottle open!!3 points

right now my side of the story, yes i was sent all these items ,first 2 boards you sent me they were beyond repair ,you then sent me a third board which was bad as well ,i replaced most of the ics with the chips and socket that you sent to me ,then could still not get it to boot,i then told you that there was bad damage under the program card socket which meant i would have to cut the socket off which the print was all damaged underneath ,and too much work ,you then said im not bothered as the 2 maygay machines i have now are playing up and im going to get rid of them as they are a shit tech and too much problems ,you since then sold the machines on and would not need the boards back as you dont want to bother with maygay again ,you then said to do what i want with them, this was in 2019 ,you also said that you have been contacting me ,the only email i have had since 2019 is 2 messages within 2 to 3 weeks ago,why has it took over 2 years for you to put this message on the mecca ,u did not slag me off when i was fixing your mpu4 boards ,and you was happy with them,is this all because i had a go at your mate andrew96,by the way a dictionary is no good to me as i am dyslexic ,,and by the way because it has been 2 years your boards went in the bin ,i have nothing to hide ,i have fixed a fair few of boards for people on here and never had a problem ,thank you for reading2 points

Hopefully mick will be along soon to give his side of the story , but I’ve never had a problem with him so I’m very confused about this as I know he’s certainly not in it for the money as I’m sure others who have spoke with Mick would agree, I’m sure it will all be sorted out and hopefully it’s just a wires crossed situation and it can be sorted out like gentlemen2 points

Another bizarre fault today. The board would boot sometimes, and other times only partially ie. the reels would index and then it would click to initialise but then just make a high pitch noise? Eventually I discovered that it was due to IC1 (Z80 PIO) by substitution but couldn't understand why. After much head scratching I found that if it was stuck with the funny noise just touching the chip would make it fire up correctly??? If that wasn't strange enough, only when it was touched in the middle. Further proding and poking led me to pin 16 and touching the meter on this pin would also fire it up. Now the really odd bit, this pin isn't used and therefore not connected to anything. I can only think that internally it should have damping resistor to 5v or 0v which was damaged. Anyway a replacement sorted it. Another one had me going for a little bit. It wouldn't completely boot and during the reel indexing there was no activity on reel 3. Checking on IC1 confirmed that no drive pulses were present which they were on reels 1&2. When the reel indexing sequence finished they did change state which made me think it possibly wasn't IC1? Then a thought occured to me, if the reel sensor was stuck it would think it had already indexed and would never get round to spinning the reel. Checking the reel sensor input on IC3 showed reel 3 to be stuck low and with a new chip all was restored to normal.2 points

Well maybe, but mick has been avoiding me since he could not fix them.yes he fixed a couple of mpu4 boards that I offered to pay for and did as I dont expect anything for nothing.but you never told me about the boards, you just said they were in bits and that's the last I heard. The boards were fixable and nowhere near as bad as some I've seen that have been done. You bit off more than you could chew, all I wanted was a sorry,I cant fix them or whatever the reason.but it's over, dont cry over spilt milk.now I think it's time to move on.1 point

Ok,as I have never had a sorry or explanation as to why I never got my 3 m1a boards back, and game cards, and chips, sockets solder resist etc, after asking many times and mainly being ignored I got excuses like he has a bad back, missus I'll or my boards are in bits, the last time I asked for them back was 3 week ago and all I got was beyond repair.well they was after that twat had them ,at least 2 were quite clean and not too hard if you know what you are doing,so sorry fruit 58 (mick) you have pissed me off and it's not acceptable.you just left it without a word knowing I needed these for my triv.over 2 years on and God knows what happened, maybe you sold them maybe you kept them, but you are out of order.i have given you more than a fair chance and still nothing.so if I were you guys do not send him anything if you plan on getting it back.its only down for dangerous Dave I got it working as he was kind enough to sell me a good board.so before you have a go at anyone else mick, look at yourself. And perhaps you should buy a dictionary.1 point

I think it is fair to say you will have to replace a few components in that tight up picture. The damage has either killed a component or inured it so it will fail later on. Plus you have to 100% neutralize the battery chemicals or they will continue to damage new components. My tech experience is before surface mount and whilst I will bodge some of the older "bigger" stuff it is not something I would ever do for someone else or an unobtainum circuit. It seems to me you have a few boards to experiment on and have been fucked around by so called professionals, so why not hack away and see if you are successful....nothing to lose.1 point

So capacitors arrived today microscope to fit them! ok so testing, oscillator does now start when power is applied! When turned off so it runs off the battery power, the oscillator then stops! It should continue to run but it just won’t!! i have looked at the microchip data sheets AN949, AN849, AN1288, AN1416 and it is no help at all, I have no idea what to do next to cure this, it is not the easiest of circuits to work on as it’s under the PIC socket! The only thing that I think makes sense as I have changed everything is the battery venting over the years and into the pcb has changed the characteristics of the pcb which quite likely is causing problems with the oscillator circuit. perhaps this is why barcrest have decided to drop this like a stone now there warranty commitment is done!!!1 point

I think the remaining capacitors must be from RS European hub so it looks like Brexit is the cause of the delay, they will arrive when they arrive!!!1 point

The transistors for the display was in the components received today fitted and flux cleaned off next testing!!!!! yay!! Display lives again!!!1 point

The battery runs the pic, even when not connected to the mpu5 or any other power source1 point

I have had all these cards stored for a few years not used and it is only now I am finding this seems to be a common problem with them, I have another in my collection that wont oscillate!!1 point

Ok you do realise most wrist straps are around 1 meg ohm? The earth bond point is another 1 meg ohm this is so it dissipates static fine but won’t give you a shock in doing that because of the resistance my wrist strap measures 1 meg ohm and on the tester it tests for below 10 meg ohm to pass, this is my super duper expensive metal strap on my tester1 point

Could do but I need to find out what the problem is first, I am much slower these days due to my retina reattachment surgery and I get bad days where I get bad headaches as the brain now does not like it cannot see well out of that eye1 point

I doubt it, you can ask them if they have IPC 610 certification, that’s the industry standard thare are standards on soldering all laid down which is the bible I follow, this is the solder fillet specification, the components on the board I photographed above are not like this!!1 point

lol well you cant fix something and not know how its been fixed... you dont have to understand how every component works for someone to tell you its a certain component that is causing the issue even if its been fixed by trial and error i just dont understand all the mystery i had this with the guy from fruit machine sales when he tried to repair my card , he copped the nark and felt i was asking to many questions and felt if you took your car to a garage you wouldn't stand over the mechanic and ask what he was doing and why he was doing it is there really so many fruity business on this forum that is going to take the info and make millions with it i think not.... its just being over complicated , alot of time has maybe been put in to find the fix but by doing something or replacing a certain part has got it to work so i just cant see why that cant be said for example remove the pic chip socket and the rs heinz 57 hash 60 chips and the osc chip clean all area replace these chips and this will fix i understand andrew has now said remove all in this area clean and replace but what is the boundary of the area and what are these components ? if you cant learn from people telling you on here then where can you learn....0 points

with all the trouble i have had with this card since november andrew if you have the solution to my problem i cant see why you would not want to share it with me... if not on the thread on pm , i joined this forum to find freinds and meet experts your knowledge is second to none and i dont believe there is many if any on here with your skills... so the chance of finding someone else to find the problem is very slim.... and its not like going the garage when there is lots to choose from. i just dont get if your on a forum like this why you wouldn't share your knowledge. fair enough if you was a fruit machine repair business but like you have said your not. hopefully i can make it to your close freind circle one day...0 points
