I'm keeping out but think arguing is fine on the mecca lol... we all do it from time to time and it's funny for everyone else. Think we just need an argument area or system where one wins and one loses and has to change there avatar for something humiliating for a few weeks in good humour. Some one is gonna come here with a pic chip oscillator fault in future and melt their own eyes out🤣3 points

.... and some more. On switch on the board would clock up 18 credits, in fact every time it was switched on another 18 credits? Sometimes just touching the coin inputs with the scope probe or the meter would clock up credits. This little head scratcher turned out to be the 12v supply feeding the coin mech. Transistor T95 had a broken leg and hence no 12v was delivered to the coin mech so the inputs were floating. This was caused by bad storage of the board and it's a real bug bear as I see so many faults similar to this with broken/crushed components, broken tracks due to a deep scratch etc etc. Still, all in a days work. Had a couple that were dead but looked like they should be running? Previous repairs had taken place with regards to the transistors in the reset circuit but what hadn't been checked was the resistors. It's always good to change all 8 resistors in the middle and the three, or even four, at the top. I always use the fingernail test, applying slight pressure to the side of the resistor. If they are really bad the wire comes away from the body. They usually have green legs but not always so don't be fooled! In this case one of the 10K's failed the fingernail test and another one fell apart on removal. You can do a manual reset to prove the rest of the board is OK just by momentarily shorting CPU (26) to ground. If it then boots you know the reset circuit is misbehaving. Another real head scratcher was the reels not spinning correctly (or at all). I use my Arduino to fake a reel set and I have LED's to indicate the motor drives. In this case there was no drive to the odd reel motor coils although the evens were OK? This was a PC 92 and the reels are driven, odds from IC1 and evens from IC2. There were no outputs on IC1 whereas IC2 looked fine? You'd obvioulsy go straight to IC1 and swap it out but then what do you do when the spare is exactly the same! After not too long (I surprised myself here) I thought I'd just check the signal paths and eventually got round to the DATA bus. All were showing a signal on the scope but D7 didn't look right. It looked like there was lots of information missing due to big gaps in the waveform. Checking D7 on the CPU showed what I expected to see so I'd sussed it there was a break somewhere. That was good news as it's faults like this that cause me to jump in the Thames! If you've ever tried to trace a track on these boards it's horrendous, and for the life of me I couldn't find where the connection was between all the PIO's and the main DATA bus back to all the other chips. To make some headway I just put a tack wire back to the CTC chip and BINGO all the motor drives were now working. Get that wine bottle open!!3 points

You told the guy not to bother sending them back, you can’t moan years later. I lent my mate £350 quid in 2019, I told him I didn’t want it back, therefore he robbed me? J2 points

I hope you get some kind of apology fruit58, out of order to have someone lie about you robbing them! J2 points

The 50p changer now works. The last job on this machine is to re-connect the original mains socket. This is mounted on the rear door, and had been 'modified' to take a fixed lead by removing the inside cover, and twisting on a wire and plug. (You can see this bodge in the pic.). When I came to look more closely, I found that the machine has no internal fuses! I'm guessing that these were mounted on the (now missing) cover. Three, I would think, for Mains 'in', Mains lighting, and 50 volt . I'll need to make something up. There's room on the mounting plate of the socket for three panel-mount fuse holders.1 point

@warlord there are a few on DIF that I have never met but speak to them off the grid and they have done a lot of good things for me (rephrased brilliant things) without wanting anything in return even when I want to drop them a few quid they get really pissed off (one day it will be drinks on me all night). Outstanding cunts (my way of saying gents) called @slasher and @Bungle who also helped me to create layouts and Dx's too, so knowing someone face to face or not don't mean shite if they are good hearted they are plain and simple as I had a complete prick on here promise me things only to give me the run-around , now on to Andrew and don't think I don't know shite as I haven't been here as long as some people but, Andrew is a fucking nice guy and yes he can seem like a bit of a know it all but doesn't he?? I kiss no arse but it is what it is at the end of the day and he illustrates very well with pictures and descriptions in detail too and with all the bullshit that has hit the real machine world and MFME world with the selling of DVD's over the years I honestly don't blame him for be sceptical, if anything take it to Pm's and off the grid simple. At the end of the day I see this like MFME that people need to learn how to do things like my pre-creating layout days, if it had all been thrown on a plate I wouldn't of liked or respected as much and as has been previously said if you don't want to LEARN HOW TO FIX MACHINES DON'T BUY ONE AND EXPECT OTHERS TO DO ALL THE WORK FOR YOU!!1 point

Andrew is not my mate he is someone I follow on here.how can he be a mate if I've never seen him.He is good, very good.so you are wrong with that comment.think this thread needs archiving,1 point

Well maybe, but mick has been avoiding me since he could not fix them.yes he fixed a couple of mpu4 boards that I offered to pay for and did as I dont expect anything for nothing.but you never told me about the boards, you just said they were in bits and that's the last I heard. The boards were fixable and nowhere near as bad as some I've seen that have been done. You bit off more than you could chew, all I wanted was a sorry,I cant fix them or whatever the reason.but it's over, dont cry over spilt milk.now I think it's time to move on.1 point

right now my side of the story, yes i was sent all these items ,first 2 boards you sent me they were beyond repair ,you then sent me a third board which was bad as well ,i replaced most of the ics with the chips and socket that you sent to me ,then could still not get it to boot,i then told you that there was bad damage under the program card socket which meant i would have to cut the socket off which the print was all damaged underneath ,and too much work ,you then said im not bothered as the 2 maygay machines i have now are playing up and im going to get rid of them as they are a shit tech and too much problems ,you since then sold the machines on and would not need the boards back as you dont want to bother with maygay again ,you then said to do what i want with them, this was in 2019 ,you also said that you have been contacting me ,the only email i have had since 2019 is 2 messages within 2 to 3 weeks ago,why has it took over 2 years for you to put this message on the mecca ,u did not slag me off when i was fixing your mpu4 boards ,and you was happy with them,is this all because i had a go at your mate andrew96,by the way a dictionary is no good to me as i am dyslexic ,,and by the way because it has been 2 years your boards went in the bin ,i have nothing to hide ,i have fixed a fair few of boards for people on here and never had a problem ,thank you for reading1 point

Another bizarre fault today. The board would boot sometimes, and other times only partially ie. the reels would index and then it would click to initialise but then just make a high pitch noise? Eventually I discovered that it was due to IC1 (Z80 PIO) by substitution but couldn't understand why. After much head scratching I found that if it was stuck with the funny noise just touching the chip would make it fire up correctly??? If that wasn't strange enough, only when it was touched in the middle. Further proding and poking led me to pin 16 and touching the meter on this pin would also fire it up. Now the really odd bit, this pin isn't used and therefore not connected to anything. I can only think that internally it should have damping resistor to 5v or 0v which was damaged. Anyway a replacement sorted it. Another one had me going for a little bit. It wouldn't completely boot and during the reel indexing there was no activity on reel 3. Checking on IC1 confirmed that no drive pulses were present which they were on reels 1&2. When the reel indexing sequence finished they did change state which made me think it possibly wasn't IC1? Then a thought occured to me, if the reel sensor was stuck it would think it had already indexed and would never get round to spinning the reel. Checking the reel sensor input on IC3 showed reel 3 to be stuck low and with a new chip all was restored to normal.1 point
