  1. Well this was a weird one! Checking the waveforms on the 6840 showed the IRQ line to be low (pin 9). This goes to all the PIO's pins 37+38 so the only thing to do was to unsolder those two pins on all the PIO's and see which one was responsible. Starting from IC3 (why do I always pick the wrong end) and working to the other end all proved to be innocent until I got to IC6. I was thinking it can't be the chip as everything else had passed the diags? Disconnecting the two pins stopped the leak but neither of the chip pins showed it either??? Soldering them back up and the leak came back??? There must be something underneath the chip, I was thinking. A swift removal only showed some slight traces of some sort of film (tobacco?) but it wasn't conductive. The two suspect pins are 3rd and 4th in from the top left. After a good clean up and a socket fitted and the original chip replaced (luckily a MOD2 with long legs) all alarm sounds were restored along with switch bleeps. So what was it.... I haven't a clue but it works now and that's good enough for me.
