  1. This machine reminds me of one particular service call. I had one Superchance give holds after wins on the Kings, Queens and Aces Did not believe until tried it out and there it was hold after win. Not all the time but only if there would have been a hold selected for next game but that should have been cancelled by the wins. Bit of a head scratcher until realised two pins on the underside of just one relay were wired the wrong way around so came from JPMs factory like that. Rang JPM to let them know what I had found in case there were more out there but they just thought I was taking the piss.

  2. It consistently paid one coin short every time. Banging the bottom of the payout chute delivered the missing coin. Removal, and a good polish with Scotchbrite sorted it nicely!

  3. Well this will be the last update but I might do a video but I'm sure you have all seen an EWS in action. It's not perfect by any means! slight white showing at the edges of the t moulding, the new stuff I got was a fraction too narrow! I will black the white bits with a fine brush. Still need to cut the inner cash door but that's about it. Going beside EWS will be chances unlimited in the house!

  5. @MAGIK Apologies if this is considered reviving an old thread, but I just wanted to write and say thankyou! I appreciate that you wrote this over 5 years ago but, as of today (August 2021), it remains one of the few places on the internet I could find any kind of documentation about these VFD units, and using your notes above I was able to successfully write an Arduino sketch to breathe life into an old display I had salvaged from a Bell Fruit Snakes and Ladders machine. I did have to make a couple of changes: re: clock speed, I'm pulsing the clock at 50μs, not 30-40ms! confusingly, I have to send the bits as MSB, not LSB as described above But I'm able to send all characters and symbols, and activate all the command codes described for blinking, scrolling, window operations etc. which would have taken far longer if it weren't for your notes above. So, cheers!
