Latest update… Firstly, happy new year & thanks to everyone who left words of encouragement for me. I’ve done nothing until a couple of days ago when I sprung into action… IC3, 4, 5, 6 now socketed with new 6821P’s IC11 also socketed with a new LS138 C28 & C39 and D43 replaced Continuity tested everything, tidied up everywhere with a fibre pencil, and mopped up with IPA. Feeling confident I connected up just white power/yellow/aux1/red/red/green leads and powering on I got absolutely nothing… just flo tubes lit. So I unplugged it all and made a brew. My first thought was scrap it, enough is enough. I do need a 10p solenoid, another machine has an iffy red lead, and a spare PSU and reel driver board will always be good to have etc. But within 10 mins I snapped out of it & started probing about. I discovered a load of pins high on IC9 which had apparently died. Another mpu3 curve ball. Dropped in a replacement for IC9 and connected up… this time reels stepped then spun, well A, B & D did, and C just jammed then alarmed… but I’d never been so happy to see a reel alarm as this surely meant it’s fully booting and no longer stuck in reset!! I checked the reel driver transistors first and thought it was T49 but replacing it gave no improvement. Probed IC13-IC15 and pins 1 and 3 on reel C’s IC14 were dead. Removed IC14 and fitted a replacement 74LS04 in a socket, and guess what… FullSizeRender.MOV5 points

Thanks, and an unblocked gamble would be brilliant. Also removing the £2 cap on exchanged nudges would make for interesting gameplay!2 points

So if I compare Royal Exchange to my MPU3 Lucky Strike is the difference (apart from the theme) the fact you can exchange for nudges, a bit like line up? oh and the bonus spin at position 3? I also see you can bank money (save) whereas on mine its an immediate payout of every win. Progression of tech lol2 points

Awesome another classic saved - you cant scrap that for spares, great game - result !! Nevertheless they are frustrating as hell but its all part of it I recon. The brew made all the difference lol.2 points

Great result, and well done for sticking with it, certainly something I wouldn’t have been able to achieve! I have to say, I’m certain mine will nudge in bigger wins than £2 but I would need to go and play it to be absolutely sure 😕1 point

Thanks for clarification chaps. I guessed just from the video and images but have never played one - do love my lucky strike, great to play as you say but had I played them in real life I am not sure I'd have been as keen as my beloved adders and ladders clubber lol - we all have our favourites of course and the nostalgia is as addictive as the gamble was back in the day lol!1 point

Very well done, amazing what a cup of tea can do lol it’s seems that reel transistors (this was my fault) or the chip ic14 seem to be a common fault ??? seen a fair few now. Pleased for you I really am it’s a nice feeling when you see her work again isn’t it! One thing I’ve learnt so far on my journey is don’t give up 🤣 it took me months1 point

Sounds like Eachway Shifter. Can't remember the manufacturer - might have been Coral Haze or Associated Leisure, although the ones I recall were around in the late 80's, £4 token jackpot. Three melons were the jackpot, you could gamble wins up a ladder, and the 'shift' feature came along at random. Actually they were by CMS - see pic, left-hand machine. MDM did their own version around 1999 but it was pretty shit. There was also a game PCP that was actually called Sidewinder which had the same 'shift' game mechanic. Hope this helps 😀👍1 point

Hi all, new member here, not sure where to start, 49 years old and an avid arcade machine (and retro console) collector, also now a new (very old) fruit machine owner! Not sure what I've taken on, I got the machine for free and so far it looks like I will be on the hook for 3x new locks, a new coin mechanism and possibly a new main board (so maybe the "free" fruit machine won't be so free). Looking forward to getting tons of good advice :P1 point
