  3. Those starpoint reels pull out dead easy basically where the white remains of a sticky label are on your photo you pull that clear plastic upwards and it all comes out. Once out you should be able to get those bulbs out easier where you have pointed in the pic, you press both sides and pull - sadly the do go brittle and some may well break as you fear, just be careful. I cant recall on those if they have twist and release holes but I don't think so, but do check when you have the reel off. If you really want to get at them without risk of brittle fractures its easier to remove the reel-band which are usually held by double sided tape. I would try the conventional way first tho, sometimes you can cause more damage trying to do something to avoid damage!

  6. I picked up a 1976 AFD "The Gambler" machine from Ebay. Kind of working. Kind of not. I figured I'd post a thread here on getting it fixed up and running, I know this kind of information is useful to me when others post so hopefully returning the favour and someone else finds this interesting or useful. I've fixed up some Bally EM machines in the past, but have been looking to do something from the UK from the 70s. The Ebay listing states the machine is all working, but only included one photo. Wasn't convinced it would all be working, but figured I'd be able to fix it up anyway. This is the picture from Ebay

  9. Well after much much let’s say messing around. Buying a new handpiece in the end and the kind amot giving me a power lead. Near on two years later I have just managed to actually get this desoldering station working and have just removed my first battery off a board. What a satisfying feeling πŸ™ŒπŸ»πŸ˜„ I have another to take off my other machine and then I’m going to buy a soldering iron and attempt to fly wire them myself πŸ§ πŸ‘πŸ» Just narrowly missed out on a used weller on e bay 😩 Seems my Saturday nights have changed somewhat over the years πŸ˜‚
