  1. Thanks for your help 👍 reel 1 lights sorted without actually taking the reel out in the end and nothing else broke or snapped , the other bulbs which are not working are on reel 3 so will have to take the reel out to get to the bulbs

  2. Quite normal flow or wave soldering of old

  3. If you've already removed the battery 'legs' I'd insert your fly wires through the holes and solder them direct to the board. Generally they'd be soldered on the track side but it depends on your board.

  4. Thanks 🙂 I took it to a local metal finishing chap in Exeter only charged me £65 to prep and powder coat, excellent job and should be really durable. The big brother was a bit cheaper in matt black. Makes such a difference.

  5. I'm getting there! - in no time I have done quite a lot to it and I 'think' it is working properly. Lots of bulbs to change and cleaning to do but it works which is amazing, There is something wonderful about the simplicity of it! memorising in fact. So I have (so far): Replaced a few spade connectors Repaired the single/double odds sequence relay (microswitch retainer clip broken (see pic) and cam was not meeting the switches) now works perfectly Reel deck was lazy so overhauled the gearbox (now its amazing! thanks to Ron's post) Cleaned the wipers and contacts on each of the reels (was not seeing some awards) swapped a faulty relay stopping payout (need to source a relay somehow, thats my next challenge if not fixable) All good fun..... glad I got it anyhow.

  9. You've done the right thing getting the battery off asap, I wish I'd known about battery damage before my one leaked! Usual method is to snip the legs with side cutters and then desolder/remove the legs one by one from the board. Soldering will always be a useful skill to have, and as you say there's plenty of helpful info available online or from a course. Good luck.

  10. I'd recommend practicing on a scrap board (doesn't need to be from a fruit machine) to get your hand in. Modern boards will have lead free solder which takes more heat to melt, old boards like old fruity ones will be leaded solder which is easier to melt. Be careful though, old boards are fragile and tracks and pads can easily lift off if they get too hot, if that happens you'll be into track repair which is tricky. Good luck

  11. Tupenny Nudger is one from Dransfield novelty. their shield design with DN logo is above the middle reel but it will be designed/built by Carfield as both companies worked together.

  14. I decided to sell instead of trying to fix and the guy who bought it found it was the Stakes and Prize board that was faulty so he replaced and all working again. Worth knowing for anyone else who stumbles on this thread. Thanks
