  1. Lol the mating game! I have the game card/roms for that one and can play it in my maze cab, what an odd game! I never ever caught it in the wild mind you, first I head from it was when it was part of the maze I purchased last year ! This particular version of the Crystal Maze I referred to (v0.1 ROM SET) was not even redemption, it was literally 30p (or 4 credits for a £1) a go and you played ONLY for hi-scores, it was a version of Ocean Zone - I do have the full £5 jackpot version too (v1.4). I recon it must have been arcade or possibly just free site trials?? I'm guessing of course. Its funny you say about play trials with the CM, I put one in a small games room recently (for fun/interest) and the first person to play it walked away half way thru shrugging his shoulder - no appreciation of the early 90's genius 🤣 - it did take a few quid to get the hang of it IMO but I still to this day love that game. Fascinating insights thank you for replying 👍

  2. I vaguely remember creating a redemption version, I think it might well have been Crystal Maze variant. I had to write the ticket dispenser driver, very crude! So that may well have been it. Such a long time ago. It was mainly written in FORTH which was Barcrest implementation of it. I used some 68k assembler for the gold and silver tickets in the end dome. I adapted that code for the Lordy Lordy style game with the failing rocks in Crystal Maze where the man had to run to the left and grab a bag without getting hit. It was also used again in The Mating Game for the end game bedroom scene with hearts / arrows. I got some mileage out of that! I don’t miss writing in FORTH. Also, we used to download the program files through a compiler into the program card which took around 20 mins a time. I think I was running around 19200 baud when transferring to the target machine. Blowing EPROMS was another pet hate. Being asked at 5pm can you blow some EPROMs for demo in the morning. It took hours! The you would power the machine on and it would list all the PROMs it’s found, only to throw a tag not found error, which meant you had left something out of the code. Yeah, blow some more EPROMs after finding out what it was! No fun. However, looking back, I really enjoyed it, simpler times! Everyone used to take turns playing the games ensuring we could just achieve a Crystal in the time, most were terrible at it, i and my colleagues were experts and used to laugh! Long time ago, but good times!
