I guess you have done all the obvious mike like contact cleaner in all those dreaded connectors and re-seating them? If the same after that I'd also re seat the program module any socketed IC's if you are happy to do so. It does sound like connection problems be it physical or even solder joint(s).

Local Easter bargain I grabbed today (could not say no), I am nearly into the 21st century with this 1999 classic (can I say classic for MPU5?) It's a great machine tho, fully working too - bought it to play more than keep but we shall see - I do like a crest club machine. If anyone has a manual they could share I would really appreciate it.
