Can't say I have seen any information about the changeover to 50volts, I would say It was down to the individual manufacturer Simon. My recollections are that 50volts was first around in the very late 1960s but really started to take over from 240v in early 1970s. Although Bell Fruit were advertising their machines were manufactured and operating on 50volts in 70/71, they continued to operate 240v machines like Waterwheel, Big Dipper etc on site right up to 1974 before they were withdrawn.
