Evening squires, and let me tell you a tale of unspoken riches, and quite often scaplings by this characters, that briefly entered the AWP world. All we have now, is a wonderful DX of this machine, and it plays (after a couple of thousand pump through it) pretty much like it did back in the 90's. The version we have is the original, as the sound ROMs, are the ones that was quickly revised, due to copyright infringement. There was tendency, for Manu's to sample top 40 hits of the 90's..I'm sure they all got licenses, for every second they sampled Anyway, this machines started out as a bingo hall favourite, but a little too high tech for the grannies. So it moved into the High Street, into practically every arcade in the land. The original 4.80 JP, was the best as always, but very rare, as it was quickly rechipped for the 6.00 market, and I think it's just as playable, but a longer haul. And it doesn't look all that deceptive??. Sure there was token streak machines out there, such as Rags to Riches, 777 Heaven, and Play it Again, but they didn't have much to offer. No setup's, or trigger wins..which will be explained later, if I don't forget. And it will roll over, and let it's belly be rubbed for a couple of quid, throwing out a few wins, like a good machine should. But try as you might..that Jackpot..is a little elusive..so you change another tenner, and plough it through..and you're shocked..50 plays, a few holds, a win or two, maybe a nudge..but where's the jackpot?. Another tenner follows, and then the big notes come out, and before you know it..50 quid has gone in..and you've got about 14 quid to show for it..where is that f*&^in' jackpot?! So you put your last in..and then something magical happens..you're given a hidden feature..Jackpot.."About bloody time!!", and it banks..and you press start..jackpot, after Jackpot follows, and you look up.."30 quid in tokens..Meh..I'll get something back" The good thing about this machine, once you've played it enough, you know the one special spin, the machine displays for the cash streak. It's normally, an extra long spin on all 3 reels, or the second reel will stop before the first..weird, strange oddball spin. And the cash does not stop coming..it can empty itself, if happy enough. if you are lucky enough to be given the cash streak, pray that the Jackpot spin is not given, or your efforts will be in 20p brass. Stop a win, if offered (trigger win) stop on the boxed mixed bells, this can go for 15 quid repeat or 30 repeat. Once the cash streak is done, you'll know..dead spins, no holds, wins, or nudges for about a fiver. Normal play: Get to know your lines. if the machine offers a random hold, and the win line forms 2/3 of a feature, hold those fruits!. Quite often you'll be offered a Nudge To Feature next credit. It's cheeky, and will kick you out for a while, but can be a way to a quick win, jackpot, or a double jackpot. Boxed win: it's a quid..or is it?. Look up and down before you exchange. If there are 3 boxes in a row, on the next (boxed) step, good chance all the boxes are lined up, when stepping..which can step 5x box win, for a 3 quid repeat. Boxed symbols. Hold and cancel, always, unless there is a definite win. Overall, there is shock value to this machine. It looks innocent, until it rapes you hard for 60-70 quid, and you have no idea, then some shark takes your cash. It's a machine, once you're caught, you HAVE to see it through..the next credit, just might be the cash streak..It was a players machine, all hints displayed on the alpha, were quick, one time, and gave little hint, to your options. You had to work it out for yourself. Party Time, had a huge Dot Matrix, which I think slowed things down. Plus they was produced in less numbers, and I only recall playing one in Brum, at the arcade, by the law courts. It was always empty, the pros always scalped it. Quicksilver in Liverpool (Sir Thomas Street), had two..which made for difficult choices, if both were available. You didn't know which one was closer to paying out. And thats the curse of this machine. Most machines around this time, had a flat token/cash streak, and you knew it would be another 100 quid, before another streak. Surprise Surprize had two streaks, and you could use the winnings of one to win another..or lose the lot. Needless to say..I lost my shirt, more than once on this machine, but I had a lot of respect for it. There was only another machine similar to this, besides Party Time, and that was Orlando Magic (BWB). Once you obtained the win roll feature, it roll in the win table for 10 cash, and then mystery number of jackpots (if it was being generous..most times a paltry 2.60 and good night). Anyway, that was my recollection of the machine. And even as I speak, it's being played, through the wonder of MFME. Now..where's mah brew? Oldskooler
